Had it for 2 years. Good speed 'cause I'm close. One outage and a couple E-mail issues since install, For the most part, it's been reliable. Running Cayman DSL, all is well. Running 5 machines on (11) 100meg ports. Don't need support 'cause am qualified and support myself. (I here the support is lacking though). Anyhow, beats the SNOT out of dial-up. Would I go with cable to save money if it were available, I would.
Just renewed to a new 1 year agreement with a monthly savings of $15 for the entire term. Promo pricing was worth the phone call. No changes to the account were made accept for the billing amount.
Update: 02/06/04 Upgraded to 6/384-608 in mid Dec. on 12 mo. contract for $99. Prices drop on Feb.2 and now I get 6016/608 for &45.00. Where else are you gonna get a DSL deal like this? Beats me!
Update: 06/08/05 Still solid on 6016/608. Going on 6 years now on my copper CO line in a 60+ year old house. Would I change? Why?? For those who can get it, it's only getting faster and cheaper.
Update: 04/03/07 upgraded to Elite- 6016/768 on 04/02. Time to live: 12 hours, WOW! Saving $10.00 a month from previous tier and how can that be bad.
Update: 03/08 I don't see myself going anywhere else anytime soon........
Update: 07/09 Still on and still stable. I think Uverse will be available here soon, if not all ready, new VRADs all up and down Pine street, Prolly won't jump though. Call me old fashioned but I still like my line powered land line. Hey!, it's California.

| Still Copper I have had U-verse now for nine months and love it. It is fiber to the CO and still your old copper drop from the pole. 18/1.5 for less than $60 per month with their promotion. Great tech support before, during and after the install. Very happy customer. | |

| tech support matters even when you can run your own system I don't think I've ever hated a business relationship more than my relationship with AT&T, due to the lack of support. And I am an Internet engineer. So I don't need AT&T to tell me how to configure my router, but I do need AT&T to configure AT&T's router. Three times in three years, AT&T's system broke and they simply don't have a system in place for a customer to report that and get it fixed. Going through the support system that is designed to help non-technical customers fix problems on their end is a painful, time consuming process. I once spent 3 whole hours transferring around before they let me talk to a person who could speak IP and type the commands to fix the problem.
BTW I am an unusual user with an unusual old grandfathered AT&T product: a static IP address subnet routed through the DSL subnet. I pay $65 a month for it, but would gladly pay more if when the service stops working I could call up an engineer and have him fix it.
Oh, and I moved down the street once, and they messed that up. I was without service for a week, and part of it was just a mandatory 6 day waiting period to see if things come alive normally, at the end of which you are allowed to call and report that it doesn't work and they type the commands to turn on the service while you wait. That's the kind of product it is -- low prices made possible by not paying people to do customer service.
If I knew of a smaller, more expensive, less reliable company from which to get DSL, I'd have switched a long time ago. | |
