I have been a Frontiernet DSL customer here in Elko, NV for the past four years. Actually, their service was pretty decent and I got about 1900 kbps down most of the time except in the evening when it slowed down sometimes. But when Frontiernet decided to adopt a 5 GB bandwidth cap I decided to look for an alternative.
Along came Wireless Beehive. »wirelessbeehive.com. They promised wireless broadband with no bandwidth cap starting at $ 29.95 per month. I decided to get the $39.95 plan which promises a minimum of 1024 kbps, but during the first few minutes of a download they offer a speed burst of up to 10 mbps. I routinely get over 3000 kbps down and 1000 kbps up at Speedtest.net. That is almost twice as fast as I got from Frontiernet, and it's cheaper too. I was paying Frontiernet $49.95 per month. Also, they don't require a contract. It is month to month from day one. There is a $49.95 one time installation fee.
I called to have it installed and they offered an appointment the very next morning. The installer was actually early. It took him about an hour to install it. He put up an antenna on my roof that looks like a Dish Network dish. The modem is mounted right on the antenna, and they only send one ethernet cable into your house. I just connected the cable to my D-Link router and the router automatically configured itself to work with the connection. I now share the connection with three computers.
So far I really like it. I have watched high bandwidth movies streamed from the Internet and it works fine without rebuffering. Internet radio plays just fine.
When I called their customer support to give them my billing address I got right through to a real person located in the USA.
They also offer VOIP with 3,000 minutes per month for $5 monthly but I didn't sign up for that so I can't comment on it.
I'll report back later after I have had the service for a few weeks to let you know how it's going.
