It took about 3 weeks waiting to get the free modem and installation for
$39.95 monthly for a year contract. I made the mistake of cancelling my
AT&T worldnet service and the 2nd phone line a couple of days after DSL
installation. Of course, as soon as I did this the DSL went to hell in a
handbasket. Could not connect to the net although the modem showed
connected. It seems that their server had a hardware problem. Guess they
never heard of a backup system!! I am not sure that getting the USB modem
was a good idea either. Wait time to talk to a tech was 30-40 minutes. Also
could not activate the E-Mail account. No one seemed to be able to help or
cared either. Took three weeks, several calls and e-mails to them before I
got lucky with a young lady at the repair line and it was fixed right away.
The simple problem was that SW Bell advertised the $39.95 deal with large
ads in the local paper and were overwhelmed with business. This was a case
of poor planning and poorer execution of the service offered to the
customer. SW Bell wil learn quickly that they are not the only game in town
with this kind of performance. Rate them NO STARS for me. D. Hathaway,
