I've been trying in vain to get ADSL (784/128) from Ameritech in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, currently priced at $39.95 per month for 12 months, free installation. You get what you pay for--since I'm not paying for it, they
aren't installing it. Today was the second 8:00AM to 5:00PM "appointment" they've missed. The problem for them is that I live in an apartment building where the Network Interface Device is locked inside. So someone has to be here to let in the technician, where in a household installation the NID is on the outside of the house and no one need be home for the first two steps of the installation. Unfortunately my situation places me right in the middle of Ameritech's horrible internal job scheduling system. No one there is capable, apparently, of making this right from the customer's perspective, so I continue to wait. The latest date is next Wednesday the 10th--this time the building superintendant will be here and at least I don't have to take yet another day off work. We'll see what happens after that. I'll review again later, if there's ever anything to review.
"I got my mind right..."
