I've had Pacbell DSL for the last 6 months now, and after the first
several months of use I have occassionally noticed a very irritating
problem, that of not being able to access various websites which are
there and which I can access with my old non-DSL ISP. (dslreports.com
is a case in point, although I can get dsl-reports.com on my pacbell
    DSL.)
I've called Pacbell tech support a number of times over the months
about this problem, and the low level tech support people they have
manning the phones do the best they can, but they always end up saying
that the problem is 'out there on the net' and they have no control over
it. First they say that the site is down or busy. But when I tell them
that I can access the site with my old ISP they say that it is a router
problem out there on the net which they have no control over (it's not
Pacbell's problem, but they feel my pain).
I thought that the internet was supposed to be redundant, and if one
link went down, then there would be alternative routes to try, but this
does not seem to be the case with the sites I'm having with this DSL
    routing problem.
My latest problem has a new twist because Tracert goes through to
it, but my DSL browser still will not access it (it gives a message
saying that the server is down or the site is busy and to try again
later). In the prior problems I've had with this kind of router
problems the Tracert did not go through either (it would end up stuck at
some particular router who I could email about the problem). So now I
really don't know what to think, but it is an irritating problem, and it
seems to be a sporadically reoccuring problem, and when it happens to a
web site, then I can not access that site with my DSL for long periods
    of time (weeks, months?, years?).
So there, I've vented. I must say that Pacbell tech support has not
been any real help on this problem and that I am disappointed in them.
I think that if one route goes down or doesn't work, then there ought to
be alternative routes to try to access a site. Why not?
    Regards,
    Wayne Lill Jr.
