After getting bogged down with Viatalk's $15/month fee-laden plan that I wasn't really using that much, I finally did the math and realized how little we use our home phone line. I ordered a DID from voip.ms and configured an Astara SIP phone in about 10 minutes, and was up and running. After 2 weeks of flawless operation over my Comcast 12/2 connection, I ported my number and kissed Viatalk goodbye. The port was painless, took about 10 days, and was clearly communication via e-mail.
The voip.ms portal is really comprehensive once you get a feel for their terminology and how things are organized. It could be a bit confusing for a newb simply because of all the features that are offered (for free). They have a bunch of geographically diverse servers to connect to for the best performance.
Voice quality has been excellent, and the few times I've submitted a ticket for minor questions they were answered promptly and accurately.
We're now spending $4-5 per month on the PAYG plan, but the rates are so cheap for international calls I wish I was a heavier phone user. For us the flat rate plans out there are a huge waste of money, and voip.ms is perfect!
