All the horror stories about Pac Bell, amazing. My story goes like
this. Appointment set up to install DSL on March,3rd,an all day
appointment, no one shows. No phone call. March, 4th, spend half the
day trying to speak to someone to find out why no one showed. Finally
set up another appointment for March, 11th. Morning appointment
guarantied. Installer shows up. Says he is from San Francisco and that
he is the best DSL installer in the company. I start to worry now. He
installs the DSL, everything is grand. Pac Bell forgets to tell me that
they only support Netscape. I do not have Netscape downloaded at the
time. I can't send or receive e-mail. I call tech support, they tell
me what's up, and we download Netscape. He can't help me with Outlook
Express because, again, they only support Netscape. He gave me a hint
on how to go about getting Outlook Express going. Problem solved. DSL
up and running with no major problems. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Aside from the installation department, I have had no problems with Pac
Bell. The tech support people I have dealt with were great, friendly
and very helpful. The wait on hold to talk to a tech wasn't bad, at
most 20 to 25 minutes. Compared to my old ISP, that's pretty good. The
reason for the installation snafu's according to the installer, is Pac
Bell was not prepared for the amount of orders for their DSL. The
installation crews couldn't keep up with the orders. That is no excuse,
Pac Bell should have planned for that. When you are giving something
away for free, you have to expect there is going to be a big turn out.
The contract if for 12 months. Here's hoping it's a smooth 12 months.
