Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection reliability: Tech Support: Value for money:
Install was scheduled for "between 8-5". The technician showed up at about 8:30. Even though I had told the order desk I had Windows 2000 the technician said they didn't support it and he could only work on the wires. Since they do support Windows NT I suggested he try anyway. However, he said they only supported ISA network cards on NT (I only have PCI slots). I coaxed him into installing the PCI card. On startup the card was immediately detected and all the protocols were automatically installed (no disk was required). The DSL modem software and hardware installed just as easily as the card. Total hardware and software setup took about 5 minutes. He installed a splitter on my phone jack so it supports both DSL and analog lines. One of my other phone outlets caused some sort of interference so he took a few minutes to correct that. After that eveything worked perfectly. I took him to the DSL Reports site where I showed him how to test the speed. Although I signed up for the basic service (guaranteed 384k) I get about 1.3 meg upload speed! I've also confirmed this on two other sites, getting speeds of 1.25 - 1.9 meg. I have a T3 line at the office and the DSL seems as fast or faster. The technician was very pleasant and eager to learn about Windows 2000 so I gave him a little tour. He was also very interested in the DSL Reports site and he seemed eager to get familiar with it (he called later in the day to confirm the URL). I'm very impressed with both the service and speed. I wish I had signed up earlier.
