I stayed away from broadband when it hit my area several years ago, but after
using a T1 connection at work, and having NIGHTMARES with my old DUN
connection, I was shopping around. Apparently the DSL gods heard me because
the NEXT day, I received a flyer in the mail from SWB DSL for an offer. Free
install kit etc, 29.99/month for 3 months, then 49.99/month for the remainder of
the contract (12months). From start to finish, the telephone conversation to
get it ordered was less than 15 minutes. They told me that it would take 7 to
10 days for my order to be processed, and for me to receive the installation kit.
9 days later, the kit showed up at my office. That evening I went home, installed
the microfilters, and FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS to the letter, installed
the NIC, and the software. Upon plugging in the DSL to the phone line, the DSL
light came on immediately. plugging the CAT5 cable into the DSL and NIC and
I was up and running! (Windows XP). I've had no service interruptions whatsoever,
the speed has been in the 1.2 ~ 1.5 range about 90% of the time, even during
heavy rainstorms. Mail is fast, no spam that I've had in the past with earthlink.
The only thing is that the news server can be a bit sluggish, but that's not a big
deal to me. Overall, I would give it a 9 out of 10 (nobody is perfect).
I've had several conversations with friends who have switched from cable (mediacom) to SWB DSL in my area and like it a lot better.
I've seen horror stories from some on DSL and was a bit skiddish, but I wouldn't go back to dialup for anything!

After 1 year of service, I'm still 100% happy. I've had maybe a total of 3 outages, the longest lasting maybe an hour. I've only had to call tech support once.
Speed has remained in the 1.2~1.5meg range, and upload of 128~140k
I've recently hooked up a D-Link wireless router and run my PC and my laptop from it. No problems. I highly suggest if you are in the market, it's the way to go.

It gets even better. Within the last month (Oct 03), the upload speed has increased from 128, to 225. Download speed remains solid in the 1.2~1.5meg
range. Still no spam, since my last reboot, it's been online solid for 12 days
without any problems.
Easy ride, go for it if it is available in your area. I wish I got a discount for urging
so many of my friends to switch. I've had 3 in the last 2 months.

After 2 years, the service is still TOP NOTCH! Now with the new speed tiers, I've upgraded to the faster speed, for a lower price! It will be active in a few days.
More and more of my friends on cable are switching to SBC DSL!

The upgrade took two days from the due date (24th of Feb). On the evening of the 24th,
I notieced a BIG jump in the upload rate. After sending an email to one of the SBC
techs on here, 5 minutes later my download rate went through the roof.
I've speed tested a couple of times, evening, night, morning and it look like I"m going
to top out at 5.5meg down and 522k up!
No complaints, happy camper!

After 3 years..........ABSOLUTELY no problems. I'm still 100% satisfied!
Little to no downtime (usually in the wee hours of the night), fast, reliable!
