Since I am coming up on my 8th anniversary with now AT&T/Southwestern Bell as a DSL supplier I thought I would review the service for the record.
Today is 8/3/07. I just renewed my contract with the now AT&T service and my bill is approximately $25/Mo. I had an issue with my connection about 2 weeks ago and after being run through the mill with the overseas Tech Service I tried to use the AT&T Plus system for $99.00. That turned out to be a joke also. After over 10 hours of no service and numerous phone calls a Technician finally told me that it was a local area outage. I would change my service to Charter Cable if I thought it would be better but I guess I will remain with AT&T and pray that I have no further difficulties!! I went round & round with AT&T about the $99.00 charge and finally gave up. Their technical service that you can reach by phone is a joke.
Today, 3/8/05, I called the billing department and without any difficulties was able to speak with a representative about my account. I was looking to change my billing from the $39 dollar amount to the $29 dollar amount for the 3 K down 412 up DSL Pro package I presently enjoy. She was more than helpful and with a couple of minutes the change was accomplished.
Over the past 5 years I have seen SWBell go through the growing pains with equipment, technical service, local lines, etc. Yes, there have been some times I wondered why I did not change to Cable but I never did. I am pleased that I decided to stick with a company that takes care of their customers. SWBell along with ASI have always been great to work with once you finally reached the correct tier level and the proper person. I have never had a situation that was not corrected in a timely manner. I should also mention that DSLReports has been the best link to finding the proper information and contacts within the SWBell system. Thank You DSLReports & Justin!!
My overall service has been fantastic with actual speeds well within the maximum to be expected with normal overhead accounted for. My up time is far in excess of 99%. Last year I can only think or one 12 hour period with an outage.
I can personally highly recommend the Southwestern Bell DSL service to anyone in the Saint Louis, MO area.
2/8/06 - SWBell still rocks. I plan to call and see what type of offers they have for a re-up of my contract. I do wish they would just put prices out in a reasonable manner rather than like they are attempting to sell a used car!!
I should also mention that no outages this past year and my distance to the CO is over 12,000 feet. Very reliable connection speeds on the order of the following:
Download = 2.604 Mbps Upload = 441.84 kbps
6/17/10 The service is now called AT&T Yahoo and it is about as good as one can come by here in St. Louis from what I can find out. Anyway I am pleased.
The service is rarely down and I can only think of one time when it has been slow in the past 4 years. Any time I have a problem I contact David here on DSLReports in the AT&T Direct forum and he promptly takes care of any situation that arises. Thank you David.
I have the best plan they have to offer; AT&T HSI ELITE and my speeds are approximately as follows:
Download = 5,147 Kbps Upload = 629 kbps
As far as I know I no longer am on any type of contract and my connection is grandfathered in as DHCP. That always causes problems when I need to call Tech Service!!!
I have not checked out U-verse or what ever it is called because so far I am pleased with Charter Cable for my TV. Possibly when I get the time I will do a price check and see if I can save any money by adding Cable to my Phone/DSL bill. Zach
