I first took DSL from SBC June of last year. It did ok until I upgraded to Pro Speed. First off, they downgraded my speed to something resembleing dial-up. It took me a month to get it corrected. Then 3 months down the road they mysteriously downgraded me again, and they never could explain how it happened, and then charged me for an unreturned 2 Wire modem I didn't have. They finally got that straightened out. Later, I downgraded to express speed, then they contacted me with a special offer to upgrade back to Pro Speed at a big discount. I took it, but they forgot to uncap my speed. I had to call to get that straightened out, hmmmm... looks like a pattern developeing here. Then they talked me into upgrading to the new Pro Expert speed, which is 6 Mpbs down and 608 kbps up. I did that, and guess what, they failed to uncap me, again. As of writing this I am still waiting on them to fix it, even though the order completed and I am being charged for the upgraded speed. The last time I called them I was transferred 5 times, then treated like an idiot. I guess most people don't actually test their actual speed to make sure it is what they are suppose to have, I mean it should come within 2/3 of advertised speed. I suggest everyone check your speed, make sure it is what you are paying for.

I finally got my download speed uncapped after posting on here at the SBC Direct, one of the techs read my post had me fixed within 3 minutes. Don't call SBC if you have problems, just use this website. My new speed hasn't stableized yet, I understand it can take up to 2 weeks to do that. I am getting download speeds anywhere from 5.66 Mbps to 1.3 Mbps, so still waiting on it to stableize.

I just learned that the 6 Mbps/606 kbps at 49.95 a month for six months just became 69.95 for a year. They are claiming that is the contract I have, even though I was quoted 49.95 a month for six months. Wow, SBC did it again, I am going to have to fight them to get them to stick by their word, they even admitted that the original quote was noted on my account, but I guess that just doesn't matter. When it comes to SBC yahoo DSL, be afraid, be very afraid.

Here's an update, I moved to a small town called Fair Grove and all they had was dialup at 26 kbps, moved back here to Springfield MO, and found they was offering the new Elite which used to be called Expert Plus, the only difference was the upload was faster, and now the price has dropped to 27dollars a month for a years contract. It is doing good now, had some problems early on though. Lost DSL signal twice and kept getting capped at 1.305 Mpbs instead of the 6 Mpbs I was suppose to be getting, had to go to ATT direct twice to get it fixed. Am looking good now so hopefully it is fixed. As of this writing I am waiting on a new 2WIRE router, I decided to upgrade to one of the new ones.

I also live in missouri and have the 6 megabit package. The tech on the phone quoted me a 6 month contract price also, but luckily I had already read the info on this site and knew the price went up after 6 months and that i would be locked in for a year. The guy signing me up never told me though
I previously had the 3 megabit package and had similar issues getting them to uncap my 6 megabit upgrade, took 2 calls, but atleast they did it. Support on the site does seem to be alot better than phone support for sure

Anyway, just lettin everyone know, your experiences arent isolated to just one incident. I have had a nearly identical experience.

    Re: SBC

I dropped back down to Pro speed, 69 dollars is way too much to pay per month for DSL. I thought it would save me money, they said that I will be paying 21 a month for a 6 month contract, then can drop DSL all together. Somehow they have hit me with a bill for 3 months in advance, I don't understand that one.
