September of last year (05) I ordered SBC DSL Express for a 1 year contract. It was very easy and I had decent speeds (average 1280 down 310 up). I understand that this first problem was my mistake. I forgot when my 1 year contract would be up, and I know I should have called them. I got my bill last month and express dsl jumped up to $50. I called and they said I can continue with Express no contract for $20 or upgrade to Pro for a few dollars more. I decided on Pro and asked if there was anything I need to do to upgrade. They said no and it would go active 10/27. On 10/27 my upload had increased to 440K but the download stayed the same. I rebooted my computer, router, and modem, and did the 192.168.0.1 for modem settings. The modem shows 3 M down and 512K up. I have read on this board about the Redback Profile needing to be updated. On Friday night, the same day the upgrade went active) I tried the SBC technical help chat that I installed off of the cd rom that came with the modem. They would not do anything because it was still the same day as the upgrade. I am thinking about just calling ATT on Monday and see if I can get to Tier 2.
All in all I would recommend to a friend but I would warn him about the problems upgrading.
