Ironically, asking for an upgrade in service tiers, then finding no increase after repeated complaining, I asked them to roll me back to the lower tier. This seems to (sometimes, but not always) confuse the field techs. It has been known to leave one with something in between the lower and higher tiers at the lower tier price.
Now I'm thinking of throwing my cell phone to the pavement (faked rage) in front of the AT&T Wireless office ... think it'll work? Do ya think they'll throw an iPhone at me?
