I started with WiMax in Chicago when Xohm launched in Baltimore. I ordered a modem and had it shipped here to Chicago. I loved it so much and had all intentions of switching to it when they did their commercial launch here, but it all went to hell when Sprint partnered with Clearwire.
Coverage went down the drain initially and the speeds were non-existent. Tech support just kept saying there were outages with no real explanations.
I can't stand their equipment. No external antenna connectors, the USB sitck it the most awkward device I have and their flex connector broke within a week. I am stuck carrying around a 12" USB extension cable everywhere. They definitely took the cheap route with the equipment.
Speed is HIGHLY dependent on your signal strength. When I was tailgating at Soldier Field in the Adler lot, I had terrible signal. I had to run a USB extension cable and zip tie the modem to the top of the truck to get it to work decently.
It seems that they have worked some things out as of recently as speeds have seemed to of increased, but they have a lot of work to go.
I went on a trip to the Belton and Temple, TX area and initially it wouldn't work. I had to clear the DNS servers that I got in Chicago, but it worked fine once I did that. T-Mobile only had EDGE service and the WiMax worked great, I was SHOCKED.
