No downtime.
Incredibly slow.
If you have any other land line alternative, DSL, Cable, etc. it HAS to be better.

For what its worth, computers and networking are what I do.

Saw 6-8Mbps in the first week. Around the time the trial is up, speeds dropped dramatically. I'm lucky to see over 70Kbps during the day now. It has stayed this way. No heavy downloading to instigate a throttle.

Between 3AM and 4AM the obvious cap is lifted, and i'll get 3-4Mbps down.

This is with 4 bars.

Like any service, your results may vary. This technology is far from perfected and far from consistent. Many variables exist for the end user. But, just visit clear.com's support forums, and you'll see what appears to be half of clears customers disgruntled as well.

Ofcourse, your results may vary, but its a gamble and i'd suggest avoiding it if you can.

Re: Clear looks like it does suck.

I live in Angleton and agree Clear sucks, but it's just the company itself. If you subscribe to one of their wimax resellers, they generally don't throttle their users even though they use the same towers and practically the same equipment. Also, you might look into a local WISP. I know that Skynet should provide coverage in Iowa Colony, but they are a bit expensive and have a $200 install fee, but they offer pretty fast speeds without bandwidth caps. »www.skynetwisp.com/coverage.html Another possibility is Impact Direct, they offer more plans to suit any budget, without bandwidth caps, and only $80 for installation, if they offer coverage. They'll send a crew to do a site evaluation for free if you could possibly get coverage, but their coverage is not nearly as extensive as Skynet's, so they might determine there is no chance for reception. »www.impactdirectusa.com/ ··· ices.php

Re: Clear looks like it does suck.

I had actually been with Skynet for several years, until recently. Basically, In the final year, service became incredibly flaky. I work from home, so downtime was a no-no, and it started occurring regularly, about once a week. Their tech guys (who I began to know well), came out repeatedly, and the service issues were ruled to be some very ugly radio interference, which unfortunately, is hard to tackle. I can comfortably say we tried EVERYTHING.

As much as I dislike Clear, service is atleast consistently up/reliable. (Notice my "PRO" is "no downtime"? hehe.)

Thanks for the suggestions tho. We need all the help we can get in Iowa Colony. I'll look into Impact

Iowa Colony here as well. Like dilvish said, look into Skynet. I know they service Iowa Colony and its unlikely you'll get the same interference issues I had. Speed was ok. Best I ever saw was about 2Mbps down, 1Mbps average, but like with wireless, distance, towers, trees, all those factors contribute to what youll get.

It really is amazing we dont have any landline broadband options yet, with all the growth. I'm about 3 1/2 miles away from Cable AND DSL, so its very frustrating to say the least.

Clearwire problems continue

Welcome to the club, empire! Clearwire is as unstable as anything possible. My speeds vary by megabytes as yours, and there's no rational explanation to be gotten from their tech support.
