I've been wanting to leave my current ISP and home phone provider in favour of Teksavvy and a VoIP phone since last year, but there was the initial of the modem and dry loop for the DSL, and the router, not to mention the hassle of setting up the router. So I postponed the move until this month, when I happen to see that Teksavvy offered cable internet for a great price, and without the need for a dry loop like DSL. I jumped at the chance was pleased with the service I got on the phone, speaking with a woman from Chatham. She was quite helpful on my initial investigative call, as was a second rep on my subsequent call to set up the order.
I purchased a used Motorola model for dirt cheap to handle to job. The Rogers tech showed up right on time on the day of the install. Truth be told he didn't have to do much. All the wiring was in already. He just hooked up his device to check the signal, which was good. He stuck around for a few minutes to check my computer to make sure the the signal was working. It was.
I did have to call into tech support to get it working properly, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that tech support was also based in Chatham. I didn't feel any of the frustration I had felt in the past speaking with tech support reps from Bell, whom I always had difficulty understanding due to English not being their first language.
It's been pretty smooth sailing since. Granted, I've only had the service for about a week, but I am quite impressed with the service. The speed is more than what I am paying for. I have my VoIP phone on it and it sounds a lot less staticky than the DSL.
I am glad to have made this move. My internet/phone bill has been slashed in half, and even with the initial outlay for the equipment, I'll still come out ahead after 12 months. I don't know if Bell or Rogers should be worried, but I for one am glad to not be associated with them anymore. Good riddance!
