UPDATE 3/29/08
Finally fed up with throttling, can not use internet for things like VPN or HTTPS without being throttled down despite being told these are not throttled.
UPDATE 12/29/07
Well the torrent throttling has finally bothered me enough that I am joining the crowds to complain about it. Not only did Bell lie about how it works but they end up throttling ALL traffic that isn't HTTP or FTP regardless of network congestion and set on a fixed schedule. I can no longer recommend this service to people until this is straightened out, this is ridiculous.
UPDATE 12/03/04
Well I got the so called "4mbit upgrade" but turns out that is only the sync rate (4032kbps). So in real life I really only get 3430kbps on speed tests. I am not pleased. But there are rumours of this increasing again at the end of the month.
Upload remains the same also.
UPDATE 03/01/04
Connection is still very reliable, has not gone down once in the last 4 months, been very happy with it. Playing online games has been great, always have a low ping under 60 ms on most servers.
Upgrades are supposedly coming soon, so hopefully I will be enjoying 4000/800 speeds soon.

I've had Bell Sympatico Ultra for a few months now and I am very happy. I was using Rogers Hi-Speed Internet before and I eventually got fed up with it (unreliable speeds, connections etc) so I made the switch.
Phoned Bell and a few days later a box came with all the equipment. Installation was pretty straightforward with no problems getting it all working.
Speed was ordered at 3000kbps download, 640kbps upload.
Actual speeds are around 2949kbps download and 680kbps upload. So no problems with speed.
I'm very happy with it, it's always fast and it has yet to go down on me. If you are currently a cable user and you are looking for an alternative I'd highly recommend this. The only issue I have with it is the required use of PPPoE, but since I use a router it doesn't really bother me that much since it handles it for me.
As always check with Bell first to see if you can get this service in your area before you do anything.
