Update:I still have bell on my main line, P2P and vpn speeds are pathetic since torrent throttling rolled out. Tech support is worse then ever and its even a pain to cancel.
Now they even throttle third-party isp's like teksavvy Ive updated the score accordingly.
Ive had bell sympatico high speed in 2001, Its been great until this year. There has been pppoe outages in my area recently. 3 times within the last month. (The first time took 2 days to fix, second and third were just a few hours).
Ive used there tech support a total of 3 times the first time I was experiencing sync no surf after the 5 meg upgrade. The level 2 tech lowered me to 4 megs and everything has been great since then. He didn't screw around he immediately checked my profile for errors found them and fixed the problem,
However the last 2 times I called them I got some person who sounded like they were in india (Did bell outsource there tech support or something ?) who had me power cycle my modem 3 times, And blame the problem on my computer, when I was just trying to find out if they had a pppoe outage in my area (I ended up saying good bye and hung because he was useless). I called back the next day and discovered exactly what I thought they had a authentication server outage in my area (SHOCK), He still tried to run me through power cycling my modem ect but I just said good bye and hung up. They also do not offer a static ip without a business connection.
I just switched to teksavvy and im looking forward to using there connection and writing a review on it.
The only real good thing I can say about them is there latency's were good I was sitting at 4MS for my first hop past my router.
edit: Forgot to mention the torrent throttling, I haven't noticed a impact but I torrent with encryption on and I have my connections on my machine and torrent client as high as the sky. (Highest aloud in windows using the tcp/ip patcher, And utorrent set to the same).
UPDATE Jun 2, 2008 I have canceled all of my services from bell, and I am in the process of switching to teksavvy. I strongly recommend others do the same.
