I recently upgraded to the Premium 7mbit service. The sales rep said it was available in my area and that I'd see great speeds in just a few days.
Nothing could be further from the truth. After dozens of frustrating phone calls to a call center in another country, many of whom I could barely understand, I finally got to speak with someone in Tier 2. They checked with the next level of support who then advised that the Premium 7mbit service was not available in my area.
Called the Business Office and requested that I be placed back on my old (now grandfathered) High Speed Ultra service. I was told this wasn't possible. So, my monthly cost went from $55 to $75 to get the exact same speed and unlimited cap that I had before.
Then I got my first bill and was charged a $20 activation fee. Another call to Sympatico to ask why I was being charged an activation fee since I was upgrading my service. The charge was removed, but again I was on the phone sorting this issue out for another hour.
Be careful when you order the 7 Mbit Premium service from these folks. If the service isn't available, you'll end up paying $20 a month more for the exact same speed and bandwidth cap.
Edit: After I cancelled service with Sympatico, I was told there would be no Early Termination Fee since they couldn't provide 7 Mbit service. Lo and behold, on my next bill sat this $100 charge for early termination. Be careful when dealing with these people. Not only are they inept, they'll tell you whatever it is they think you want to hear as long as they make a sale.
