Bell Canada
"Consistent so far, no matter the time of day. Get full 7Mb/s as advertised. Very consistent low pings for games."
"The full speed of 7Mb/s actually translates to about 6.3Mb/s with overhead (with full sync at 7,296kb/s)"
"If you are reasonable close to a switching location, then DSL can be very good and consistent."

(ratings well above consensus)

    The bottom line is this:

Customer service was good - one lady was a bit cranky initially calling to schedule the time for a technician to come and activate the DSL on the line, and setup the new Bell landline as active; but I would be cranky at times too working in a call center.

The technician who came to my place was very nice, and arrived 10 minutes before the scheduled time window. I may have just been lucky, as I was apparently scheduled 1st on his board for the day.

The DSL speed and quality is great - and as advertised. This I would assume because I am right around Yonge and Eglington in Toronto - right near a central junction. I've seen it vary at other locations.

However, compared to cable for the same price that I was used to, the top download speeds are slower (upload is the same) and configuration for Cable is much more simplified for those who are not 'Tek Savvy'. On that not as well, ping times seems to be more consistently low - and download rates do not vary at all no matter the time of day. Bonus over cable without a doubt.

If you're close to the DSL switching point, and can obtain a full sync speed for your DSL modem then I would deifnitely give the OK to DSL, otherwise go for cable.

**Edit, just tried the 16Mb/s service... here are my speed test results from speedtest.net

    results: 12,827kb/s down 875kb/s up

I have been without email service since May 23rd,2008. It is July 7th,2008 and I have been asked to wait again for another 2 days so that they set me up with a new email address. In 2 days if I don't have email, I am switching to Cogeco.ca.
