inside/outside wiring

When using a CLEC such as Covad, all Ameritech's responsibility is to install the line to your phone box, which is considered the outside wiring. Covad is responsible for all inside wiring, from the phone box to your computer. Ameritech did exactly what they were supposed to do.

A Long Saturday, but Looking Brighter

Well, this is my story. From the time I ordered DSL from Earthlink, to install, it took about 2 1/2 weeks. However, if I did not pester them about not receiving any confirmation as to when Verizon was to be out and check my line and Covad installing the DSL, it would have been longer. I was fortunate to call Earthlink several times to be sure I had the software, and they finally sent me the software but no instructions. The Covad tech came around 9am and check out the phone and proceeded to the installation. Then after installing the NIC, the video some got knocked out, I was the one to get the video to display and then after bootup, the installation caused my 800X600 resolution to get kicked into 640X480 and with 16 colors. I was again got that fixed myself, I was getting the feeling this Covad really wasn't all together, although a very nice person. He had to call another tech a few times to get the system up and communicating. He then left, this was my fault, I should have held him there till the reboot process. Well, my Sound Card is not working, I keep getting the error message, not detected and in the Device manager, it does not show any signs of sound card installed. I was having a problem accessing my ATT mail and mindspring Mail, but I called in and even though you had to wait more than 20 minutes, I was able to get those problems resolved. Well, the other part of the story is that my system continues to freeze up since the addition of DSL, my mouse especially, so I replaced my mouse with an older version and at least now, the freezing has subsided greatly. I went to the tweak site and getting a fairly good d/l and u/l ratio. Thanks for the information on Tweaking.... it really helped Greatly... Now I am on a 6 month contract and wait to see how often Outages will occur during that time before I permanently decide to stay with DSL instead of Cable. My question I guess is the tech liable for my "Sound Card" or am I have to absorb it.???

Re: A Long Saturday, but Looking Brighter

sounds like an irq issue. i doubt there is anything wrong with your sound card. more likely your computer is having an issue with the nic card, and that will be why your video was wacked out and you lost your sound and so on. you can try putting the nic into into a different slot to see if it solves the problem...

Huh?

How in the world did a RoadRunner Cable review end up
under Earthlink DSL?

Hmm?

Perhaps you should slow down and watch where you put your review? You have Earthlink DSL with Covad as the clec and Ameritech as the telco? What does all that have to do with Roadrunner?

wow

gypsyrn...

Can you control your anger, bud? Its ok to defend yourself but to make those idiotic comments yourself is pretty foolish, just write another review for roadrunner and forget about this one.

earthlink dsl speed

I can only say this on Earthlink dsl home networking set, once we changed router/modem to Netgear all in one product, the issues mostly stopped. 95% of our problems stopped getting rid of linksys router and earthlink's modem they supply. Hope this helps.

Re: earthlink dsl speed

Yes, things do go bad after 10 Years or even 5 Years so either your Modem or your Router had started to fail and instead of diagnosing which one of the two were bad you replaced both and that fixed the issue. Pretty common, except the skipping of diagnosing of which device was failing.

Re: crap

Can't agree with you there. I've been a satisfied EarthLink customer since the mid-1990s, starting out with dial-up service, briefly being a Verizon DSL customer and eventually migrating to EarthLink DSL. I've only experienced two DSL outages in the last five years -- first, when Verizon's Westell modem/router failed and I eventually figured it out, pressing the EarthLink Zyxel modem into service a couple of days later; second when saboteurs cut the fiber optic trunk lines in south San Jose, California and everyone's telephone, Internet and cell phone service, including E-911 service, was out for about 8 hours. Neither of these outages were EarthLink's fault.
