Rest in peace, little yellow bird.

    UPGRAPE 7 July 2007:
I renewed my service with them last November during a 2 for 1 deal. Since then, I can only recall one outage that was the fault of SR. The rest were either my HSI provider or equipment on my end (not the Gizmo) that died on me. There's a lot of bad press going on right now about SR, but I'm sticking with them, as they are the best value for the dollar in the VoIP world (compare to the $25/month for Vonage, or the $40+/month for Comcast).

    UPGRAPE 20 Feb 2006:
Well, it's been 4 months, and I've been happy with SR. Initial problems have been resolved and the call quality is as good as or better than copper. Notwithstanding the massive outage today, I've not had any glitches in my service.

I've only had their service for a week or so, but this was my experience:
    1. Signed up.
    2. Was told that the Gizmo was on backorder and they didn't know when it would ship.
    3. Bitched to customer service.
    4. Got Gizmo about a week and a half later.
    5. Connected in about 2 minutes, first calls were ok.
    6. Got ANOTHER Gizmo and my free phones

Reliability is questionable, as I've had problems where people calling in can't hear me when I pick up, and when I dial out, I hear nothing, despite the other party picking up the line. Tech support has been so-so in helping me out with this.

For the price, I suppose it's a good deal. Hopefully they'll work out their technical problems soon...I'll keep this updated.

Something you might want to try regardless of your VOIP provider, is Hawking's Broadband Booster. I noticed a huge improvement in sound quality. It basically performs an automatic QOS and gives VOIP packets higher priority. Especially important if you have your Gizmo behind your router and it doesn't provide a QOS option.

Just a suggestion - you can sometimes find it on sale for around $30 with a rebate.

    On Your End

Great suggestion to help things on your end. It's not always a problem at SR causing these issues. Anything you can do on your end to enhance the call quality is also VERY important. Make sure you regularly run anti-virus and anti-spyware programs on your computer so you are not losing bandwidth. Make sure you try to separate the gizmo from other equipment like modem and routers to avoid interference. Run tests on your up and download speed as recommended. Have your ISP do a diagnostic on your modem just to make sure it is functioning at 100% and they can also check for line noise. Sometimes a cable or splitter could be bad. Check all of your connections. Most of all, if you continue to have difficulty, deal with your ISP and SunRocket representatives in a calm, professional manner and they will be much more willing and able to try to help you solve your issues quickly. Don't give up before you've exhausted all possibilities on you end. Have a great day.
