Update 09/07/2006: If you sign up for a year it's only $29.99/month for 3/768. Service has been rock solid. The upload rate make watching my Slingbox remotely so smooth. I can't wait to test out FIOS.
Update 09/20/2004: I'm now subscribed to Verizon's 3/768 teir. It's awesome! My ping times went down to 6ms to my first hop. It's only 39.95 too!!! Verizon DSL rules!!!
Update 05/25/2004: Verizon upgraded their speed to 1.5/384 for FREE! My ping times went down from 20ms (first hop) to 9ms! The price is still only 29.95/month. Verizon rocks! In a few months they are offering a 3/768 tier too...
Update 04/27/2004: The service is working great. I have had ZERO downtime and ZERO slowdowns. The price is now 29.95/month since I have a calling package. Verizon rocks.
Update 05/05/2003: HOLY COW! Verizon dropped their rates to only 34.95/month!!! AND they increased their DL rates to 1.5Mbps!!! I got a 54G Linksys 4 port wireless router. Works awesome. VERIZON FOR PRESIDENT! I feel bad for all the people stuck with cable and their 50/month price...
Update 01/20/2003: Still working great. No slowdowns. Ping times are great. In the next few months I'm going to get a wireless router. I will update the review when I receive the equipment.
Update 11/11/2002: Working great. No Problems.
Update 10/11/2002: Working great. Still no problems. Pings are great. I noticed Verizon has lowered their monthly rate from $49.95 to $39.95 if you sign up for a year. Also, they have an even better deal for $34.95! If you own a Verizon cell phone, and use local and long distance from verizon they give you the $34.95 discount on DSL. So cheap...
Update 07/25/2002: Working great. No problems.
Update 07/19/2002: Connection has been solid. Good pings and routes. DSL rocks!
I called their toll free number. Verizon tested my line. 7 days later I had the DSL package delivered via UPS. It came with a Westell DSL modem (WireSpeed), Cat5 cable, 25 feet of phone cable, 4 filters plus 1 plate filter (wallmount), two way splitter, and installation instructions/CD. You would have to be a 5 year old not to be able to understand and install this. It's so easy. I split the signal and placed a filter on my phone side. I added the 25 foot cable and ran it directly to my DSL modem. I powered it up and the modem and light synced. I booted my computer and put in the installation CD. I followed the instructions which took like 3 minutes. I rebooted and the service was working! I ran a speed test and I get about 92KBps/15.7KBps which is about 736/126kbps. They advertise it as 768/128. That's pretty close. You also have to consider the IP overhead that gets wasted. It costs 29.95 a month for the first 3 months. After that it's 49.95. I used to use ATT cable in Sunderland (01375) and it was junk. Most of the time I'd get half the advertised bandwidth. Everyone (mostly college kids/UMASS) on the network used file sharing aps and it just killed the connection. I'd get around 200ms to my first hop! You can't play that with games. On DSL I get about 15ms AVG to my first hop! It also took ATT 6 months to fix it cause they didn't guarantee ping times and 80% of the tech support didn't know what I was talking about. With DSL, I certainly don't have to worry about my neighbor hosing my connection when he's sharing music either. DSL is a great deal. I didn't have to wait for some tech to come out, I did it all myself, and the speed is great.
