October 2011 - DSLReports reminder bot update - Still enjoying luxurious 1.5 Mbps DSL, but very close to a FIOS order. The combined cost savings of a bundle is too good to pass up at this point. Like so many other scenarios, the existing customer gets milked and the new convert gets the sweetest deal. So it looks like time to become a convert. DirecTV stopped offering Tivo interface some time back and mine are all dead or dying. If I have to put up with sucky DVRs I'll not pay this kind of money for them. DirecTV we hardly knew ye...
Feb 2009 - Still going strong with 1500/384 for about $30/month DSL. FIOS is all over the place, but I don't want to give up my DirecTV and Tivos. I know I will get a serious price increase when the contract runs out too (the same way Optimum online was back in the day). Also, I have noticed that the FIOS program guide is notoriously inaccurate at times and that's not going to work for me at all. I am a dinosaur for not giving up my copper, but I still hesitate to give it up. I refuse to go back to Cablevision on principle - they have some truly horrid TV ads, and their network is probably as congested now as it was when I gave it up 5 years ago.
Sept 2005 - To date I have been unable to secure the 3000/768 upgrade on my line. They say I'm too far from the CO to even have the service level I have now (1500/384), so I haven't pushed the issue in case someone decides to downgrade me. I suspect they're biding their time as FIOS creeps slowly towards my area, but I understand that it's still suffering occasional hiccups, and once you get a fiber line you're SOL for any copper whatsoever. DSL is now unofficially a legacy service in FIOS areas. I'll probably take the plunge anyway when it's available.
June 2004 - Called customer service to request upload speed increase from 128 to 384. CS rep was helpful, performed MLT on my line putting me @ 10k feet, up from 9k on previous tests, but still within range. Also mentioned reduced price offer and was given a $5 reduction, from $35/mo. to $30/mo. Upload was upgraded in 13 hours! Speeds have remained as advertised, solid reliable connections to date. Hoping that this purported summer 2004 3000/768 upgrade is not vaporware, then I'll be really satisfied!
Nov 2003 - Got fed up with Cablevision price hikes and service degradations so i decided to take the 30 day free offer from Verizon and see if I could live with the lower speed. Lo and behold, I went from 10000/1000 to 1500/128 and the world didn't stop spinning! Reliable so far, so much so that I dropped OOL entirely. Good riddance Cablevision, you won't be seeing my $$ again for quite a while
