1/24/2009 - My Mother's application for reduced fare "Life-line" service went through this week. As a result of this, Verizon ADSL is giving her a discount on it's 3mbit/1mbit package. She'll be paying $23.95 with a 1 year contract
Those of you folks who have or qualify for lifeline service, remember you can use it to run your ADSL and get a discount to boot!
I was impressed by the inter-dept. communication. Disabled Services co-ordinated everything extremely well..
1/12/2009 - VZ ADSL survived the holidays admirably, with no slowdown and no increased latency. I just signed up for an offer to reduce my ADSL price to $19 without any reduction in speed. Hmm, $19 or $61. Hard choice, huh?
3/25/2008 Short outage at 4:20pm, not the best time. My modem resynced at a lowered sync rate and had to be manually reset later. First outage this year for me, lasting a total of 25 minutes

ZOMG! My Ave Y property is smack in the middle of a new FIOS rollout! And here I was hoping for 7/768 speeds. YAY!
2/19/2008
I have submitted a request for an EWL to be performed so I can obtain business class 7/768 service at my Avenue Y property in Brooklyn.
2/1/2008
I've had Verizon ADSL service in one form or another since early 2,000. While there have been troubles occasionally, it has been an outstanding service. It's not as fast as cable internet, however, due to stability I decided to keep the service, currently in two locations.
If you can qualify for 7.0/768, you'll never miss your Cable provider. 3/768 is acceptable but a bit on the slow side after coming from 10mbps cable. 1.5/384 is definitely on the slow side.
Hope this helps.
1.20.2006 One of my 1.5 lines finally qualified for 3.0/768! Yahoo!!
6.25.2005 Called to remove interleaving from my line. A Verizon Network Core Tech just called and had no trouble putting me onto fast path. He also gave me a few telephone numbers and a definite OK to go ahead and push for the 3.0/768 upgrade as my tranceiver stats are that of a 12,000 feet line. He ran an EWL which showed me as 12,500 feet and scheduled an MLT for Tuesday.
I had excellent rapor with this gentleman and after a few minutes, here's what my latency looks like: [to say I'm happy is an understatement!!!]

Trace complete.
And as I expected, my downstream speed went up a bit.

6.21.2005 Played with MSN and fell in love with it. Very cool to have free MSN Premium!
6.19.2005 Began to use the wonderful Verizon usenet server! I'm very happy with this ISP. No prime time slowdowns.
6.18.2005 Configured my user webspace of 30 megabytes. Easily accessed it via FTP. No problems at all.
6.18.2005 Received my two new Samsung 650 cell phones from VZ Wireless. They ROCK! $59 package deal for 2 phones for myself and my wife, and a ton of perks.
6.13.2005 Line #2 Activated! [And later upgraded to 3.0/768]
1st month free months 2,3,4 for $19.99 months 5-12 for $29.99
I have a year commitment. Early termination is $99. I could have paid month to month ($29) like with my first VZ ADSL line, but this saves a few bucks. I was shipped the Westel Versalink 318 router which I immediately put into bridge mode and connected with an existiting ZyXell router & Zywall to my VLAN.
Speeds are ~1530/371 - now ~2850/700 - Perfect ICMP Pings are ~10-14ms to gateway. Line distance is 7,750 wirefeet. I tried my best and finally was able to get 3.0/768.
Overall a smooth install. Perks are nice,
a) Member Webspace b) MSN Premium with all the perks (Webspace, more emails, encarta, lots of goodies) c) Good email capacity with reliable servers, lots of mail addrsses, excellent binary usenet; usenet based support. d) Dynamic IP. e) Order to live in under a business week! 3 days until modem arrived and 2 days to get sync. My line was cut over on Friday morning [we lost dialtone for ~15 minutes] f) Overprovisioning to make up for ATM cell tax.
Discount for an existing DSL customer: 1 extra month free! (You must ask billing..)
========================================================== LINE #1
2/2008 - Still connected. Able to get FIOS now.
4/20/2005- Finally an MLT was performed and it shows me at my usual distance 11750 feet. My modem is once again synced up @ 1792/448 [I'm too far for 3.0/768]
Real world speeds are:
2004-12-28 22:49:03 EST: 1514 / 371 Your download speed : 1550614 bps, or 1514 kbps. A 189.2 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 379986 bps, or 371 kbps.
My average ping to gateway is 12-14ms. My average ping to DSLReports is 28ms.
Latency is very constant and predictable. Very good for online gaming.
Usenet has been once again upgraded, and the alt.binaries.dvd* groups are BACK! You'll find little reason to keep a premium Usenet account with Verizon DSL Usenet.
Front line tech support is about as useful as any other ISP. I've had some very good people help me which are on the Executive Support staff and man the Usenet 0.Verizon support groups.
I have Verizon ADSL for 2 years now with unchanging speeds and very infrequent outages.
I also use Optimum Online cable.
I use my Verizon ADSL mostly for uploading as OOL tends to be anal about soft upload caps.
Anything I left out? Please feel free to IM. I've had Verizon now for 2 years in Brooklyn and 2 years in CT prior to moving here, and my experience has been VERY good.
David
WIREFEET: [OOL 15/2] = N/a [Verizon ADSL 1.5/384] = 11750 feet [Verizon ADSL 3.0/768] = 7750 feet
