I ordered Verizon DSL on 1-6-05 and I got the installation box on 1-11-05. The kit had filters, wires, CD, and DSL Modem (westell versalink). I wanted to install but I had to wait until the 20th for my SRD. Got an email on 18th saying my service is ready. So I popped in the CD and it didn't work. I was frustrated so I called Verizon and they told me an alternate way and I was online in 5 minutes. The tech support is great. Now I am enjoying fast internet connection at 1320k/338k and I ordered 1500k/384k so its pretty close! I recommend this Verizon DSL to everyone especially if your on Optimum Online or some other high priced service. Anything over Verizon's 29.95/month is a ripoff!
Update 1-19-05 Thanks to the nice people in the Tweak Forum, my speed is now even faster at 1478/372! Still no problems with my service too. I love Verizon!
Update 1-23-05 I have had Verizon DSL for about a week now and still no problems. I see consistent speeds, 1460-1480 down/360-375 up. I will NEVER go back to dialup. I called Verizon the other day to see if I could upgrade to 3000/768, but I'm out of range. But its all good, I love the speed I'm getting now!
Update 2-5-05 Service has still been great. I can't imagine living without DSL! I feel bad for those people on Optimum Online, though. Why? Because they are spending from 45-50 dollars a month on high-speed internet, which is just a ripoff. I went to some of my friends houses and tried their OOL. I saw absolutely no difference when browsing the web. There will be a slight difference when downloading big files, but that's really it. So unless you're really impatient, get Verizon DSL. Update 3-21-05 Just tried out the Verizon Newsgroups and wow, there awesome! So much info and its easy to access right through the opera web browser. My connection went out a few days ago, called tech support, they were very helpful. And in a matter of minutes, I was back online. Verizon is truly the best ISP, I'm cruising at awesome speeds. nyc.speakeasy.net 1483/371 testmy.net 1520k infospeed.verizon.net 1537k
Update 3-31-05 Just got a speed upgrade to 3M/768K! Verizon is truly the best ISP now! Fios is coming soon too! »/speedtests/28···12270517
Update 4-16-05 Well what can I say? I've had VOL for over 3 months now and I love it. Getting a speed test that comes in at 2782/675 for only 29.95/month, wow. The cable users can't touch this value, the best value in broadband! I searched around and there is no other ISP that can offer this much speed at such a low price. Most cable providers offer around the same speed as VOL (some even less speed) but cost up to 50 bucks a month or more! So if your on a cable provider or some other high-priced isp, consider the switch to VOL. In the past 3 months I have only had 1 outage and it was because of a major flood. Long live Verizon!
Update 7-9-05 Been a Verizon DSL customer for 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. Speed is rock solid, A good 2.8Mbps/700Kbps. I still can't believe I ever used to use AOL Dialup, this is just so much better. Anyone considering broadband, I strongly recommend Verizon. I did try to exchange my Westell Versalink for the made in USA version but got the same one. The China one reboots alot when the firewall is on. So I just turned off the firewall and its fine, no need to try again. There is a rumor of a 7.1Mbps/768Kbps tier coming out soon. Plus fios is on the move. Everything is looking up for Verizon!
Update 10-15-05 Had VOL for 9 months now, and I have to admit, I still love it. I have had no problems or outages of any kind in the past 3 months. Speeds have been rock solid. All speeds tests coming in at around 2800/700 and all downloads coming in at around 340KB/s. Everything is great right now, and fios is on its way!
1-9-06 Man, has it been a year already? Well the service continues to be great. I got a letter from VOL a few days ago asking me to renew my 1 year contract to keep the 29.95/month price, of course I did, only took a few clicks. I had a little speed drop of about 500kbps last week, but Verizon quickly resolved it, no ISP is perfect, but its good to know Verizon cares and fixes their problems quickly. All my speed tests continue to come in at around 2800/700 and verizon has been very reliable over the last year. As I recall, I pretty sure I only had 1 outage all year due to a severe flood and I was back online within a half hour. The future looks bright, and fios gets closer everyday, keep it up verizon.
3-23-07 Well DSLReports keeps bugging me to update so here it is. Over the past yr or so now since my last update, I have had very few disconnect problems, just some minor problems with speed fluctuations that will seem to be solved shortly. Service still solid, well worth the price. Hoping for fios soon.
4-4-07 Received a call from Verizon on Saturday, and my speed fluctuation problems are completely fixed. Cruising at 3021/648 on a my last speed test. Everything is looking up. I'm very satisfied with my Verizon DSL service, especially for the great price ($29.95/month) over the cable company (optimum online) which charges $49.95/month. I still highly recommend Verizon DSL to everyone, top notch service that is fast, cheap, and reliable.
8-21-07 Still as reliable and fast as ever, plus a $5 price drop.
