I was paying $9.95 per month for dial-up (via PeoplePC), so another 5 bucks or so for DSL seemed worth looking into. I was not expecting much, speedwise, since I was about 17000 + from my CO. But hey, anything's got to be better than what I was using already January 20: ordered service on-line, received install date of January 27. January 23: received wireless router, filters, and installation guide in mail. The router was a Westell, I've heard not so many nice things about Westell, was hoping for Linksys since they seemed easy to work with. January 27: At 6:00 p.m I loaded the CD, installed the filters around the house, and set up the software. Was connected in about 45 minutes. It would have been sooner, but I forgot to turn off my Windows firewall. (d'oh!)
So far things have been smooth. I am surprised at my speeds thus far, I have been averaging 696/115 on my speed tests and my line quality is good. I mostly web-browse, not much gaming, though I did a quick test of UT 2004 and AVP 2: good pings, no lag. The next test will be how it simple it is to set up my home network, once I get my other machine up and running.
Overall, good experience.
Update: There are now two plans for DSL: Starter (768/128) for 17.99/month and Power (3/768) for 29.99 month. Staying with 768/128; connection has been consistent--no issues.
2ND Update (7/16): Upgraded to 3/768. Did it online; very easy. Cost is $21.99 for first 3 mo., then 31.99 thereafter.
