After Comcast raised their rates again this year, I decided to give DSL a try. Placed my order April 11, and just went live today. So far, so good. Speeds are as promised (3/768), witch is more than I can say for Comcast. Had a little trouble hooking up my Linksys router, but those were my problems, not Verizon’s. Page loads are “snappy” and seem quicker than my Comcast service. I was only get 4 MB down with them, and they promised 6. DSL is about 12/mo cheaper, so I decided to give it a shot.
After I ordered, I came home last week to find a Verizon lineman in my driveway. He was setting up my DSL between the RT and my house. He noticed the line running into my house was old, so he ran a new drop from the street to my house. This wasn’t something I asked for, he just did it, stating I would get better speeds out of the new line, as the old one was corroded. I must say I was very impressed with this. He also knew my name, and called my Mr. every time we spoke. He seemed genuinely interested in seeing I got good service, witch is more than I can say for Comcast.
Update: 12/05/06. Still very satisfied with Verizon DSL. Reliability is %100. The connection has never dropped on me. Speeds are always as promised. All my gear is on UPS, so even when the power goes out, I can rip out the laptop and use it. FiOS is coming my way in '07, so I don't anticipate going back to Comcast any time soon. As a matter of fact, Verizon's TV offering is headed my way, and I'll probably give that a shot when it does....
Update 6/16/08. Still waiting on fios, and it's '08 (boo hoo). Verixon DSL has been rock solid. No outages, no slow downs.
Good deal for the money...
