Update on 04/02/2009:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
Billing Issues and unethical practices.
I signed up for the $17.99/month plan for regular DSL(1000K/368k) and after 2 weeks changed it to dry-loop only.
Prior to switching to dry-loop, I was told that $19.99 would be the new monthly charge and I have an email which states so...
I view my current bill online and am being charged $21.99.
Here is the part that sucks:
I called Verizon solutions dept(877-461-2284) to talk about the discrepancy in billing and after being on the call with the Rep for a good 30 min..was told I would be charged $19.99 going forward and they would refund the $2 back..
Guess what, after 2 hrs I get an email that says my plan has been downgraded to 768K/128K and now I would have to pay $26.99 to get the 1000K/368k plan...
Not even once during the entire call, was I told that the plan had to be downgraded.
I called Verizon back and the new Customer Rep tells me she had no idea that Verizon was offering $19.99 for dry-loop and kept insisting they have one for $26.99 and it took a lot of convincing on my part and walking her thro' Verizon.com that showed plans available(I have uploaded the plan information) and she finally relented..
Update on 02/21/2009:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
Verizon finally sent a tech over to the house. He determined that the cable running into the house isn't good and so re-routes the traffic into the spare cable running to the house and so far, the modem is up and running and I don't have to reboot it.
Update on 02/16/2009:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
Still having modem issues...am told Verizon will monitor my network for the next 24 hours and then suggest alternatives... Verizon so far seem to have issues with providing DSL service in the Tampa area...
Update on 02/10/2009:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
I received a new Westell Modem 7500, Rev T and I notice that if I leave it on at night, the INTERNET light turns off by itself(not sure when) and I still have to reboot in the morning to get online.
Original Review:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------
I ordered Verizon DSL services like 2 weeks ago and signed up for a 2 year plan at $17.99/month and this will likely go upto $19.99/month when I drop my home phone service with Verizon.
Received the Westell Modem 7500 and instructions on-time and the Service Ready Date was a day earlier which was good.
I have had lots of modem issues after hooking everything up.
Basically, the modem goes into a dead-zone(the INTERNET light either is off or RED) every 3-4 hours and I have to reboot the modem. Called up tech support and everytime they want me to run thro' the standard checks( turn off the modem, wait for 15 seconds..yada..yada) and gave me this run around for 10 days until I said I want to cancel my DSL...
Now, Verizon says the modem is at fault and will ship another one..
I will update my review once I receive the new modem.

@verizon.net | bad dsl ask for an in line filter and see if they will install a home run line for you. I had similar issues and this resolved it.

| I had the Westell modem - worked fine Verizon DSL didn't. Verizon basically has no US tech support for the product. Beware. The helpless desk in India is only authorized to run a remote test which detects a carrier signal and not the packets you are pulling. So, I was getting speeds slower than dial-up and the Indian phone answerers (not techs) would keep closing my ticket. Finally, I was able to get an executive escalation number in 978 area code (NJ). They put me in touch with a Canadian DSL support team who finally got a tech out there. Now, the truth comes out:
1.) The Indians cannot get a tech sent unless the test they run fails... it's not a very useful test. So, they will just send you a new modem.
2.) Verizon can't tell if you are getting data. You have to keep running speed tests.
3.) Verizon can't tell which circuit board in their remote terminal failed so they had to keep replacing memory cards, swapping lines, etc. and calling me to see if it worked. It's a problem with DSL in general - poor remote diagnostic procedures.
4.) Verizon has to order spare parts - no memory cards in stock.
5.) And the kicker... Verizon can't get ready access to all their remote terminals probably in some utility closet somewhere in some office building.
$17.99 sounds cheap compared to cable modem. But Verizon DSL is an inferior product. Plain and simple, Verizon does not put any money into this product and does not appear willing to provide anything close to reasonable support. My advice: Stay away!

| Re: I had the Westell modem - worked fine Yes. it is cheap..well, it WAS...
Now, its 19.99. DSL Plans
The alternative is BrightHouse in the Tampa area and they don't provide an inexpensive stand-alone DSL/Cable service without getting a bundle(Internet, Phone and TV)
If you live in the Tampa, FL area, I would love to hear alternatives!
