I have to pre-qualify my review by saying I'm a networking consultant and have been doing this work for over a decade... I am not employed by Verizon.
Most recent install was Verizon's 1Meg/384K entry-level DSL. Was ordered online, the modem/router was delivered quickly, and there was only a couple days delay in provisioning the line. Location is less than a mile from the CO. Speed tests consistently 99% (or better) of advertised speeds at all times.
By today's standards, 1Meg DSL is considered "slow" and it's true that it's not adequate for more than one PC, especially if they're all trying to watch videos at the same time. For a single machine, this speed is adequate for most basic Internet activities. Even YouTube will usually stream in faster than can be played.
But if you're into emailing pictures from your 12 megapixel camera, heavy downloading or like to have 27 browser tabs open at the same time you will definitely want more speed.
For less than $20/month, it's cheaper than dial-up and hard to beat for the price. Just remember, this is entry-level service.
