I ordered 640k down, 90k up back around Feb/Mar 2000. Installation was quick and I was up and running in no time. I was originally paying $49 per month until a couple months ago when Verizon lowered it to $39.
I am given a dynamic IP and use PPPoE, which I am not too fond of. I am sure if we didn't use PPPoE, the connection rate would be higher (instead of tacking on the PPP info into the IP packets).
The connection has been down only twice since. Once during the Verizon strike (was down for about one day), and once a few months ago when some hardware at Verizon broke down over the weekend. I was down for about three days. However, Verizon credited back my account which I found very nice.
Verizon only supports Windows systems, but they should look into supporting Linux, Unix users. If Verizon were to offer higher bandwidth DSL for home users and a more reasonable price ($50-60 rather than $90), I would upgrade for sure. 90k up does not seem very fast when the downstream (advertised at 640k, but really shows up as...) is 490-500k.
Hence, the price is good for the service, although I would like to see the end of PPPoE, and an increase in upstream thru-put.
