I have been a BellSouth FastAccess customer since early April of 2001. I have been up and running for 15 months without problems for 99.8% of the time. I have never had to call customer support with any problems. The service has been trouble free. When I need to use the service, it is working. The BellSouth news servers are less than satisfactory. Although they recently upgraded them, they are still not good. Sometimes the news servers are slow and sometimes they don't work at all. Overall I am happy because I don't visit newsgroups that often. The BellSouth mail servers also seem to have some problems occasionally. Again, I don't use BellSouth email very much either. I use my FREE Yahoo email accounts because I like them much better. I just primarily use BellSouth FastAccess DSL to connect me to the Internet. For that purpose it is great. It is very fast and dependable. Overall I would give BellSouth a grade of B+. If they were to get their news and mail fixed I would give them an A+.

    UPDATE

I cancelled my service with Bellsouth in April 2004 because they would not provide me with a dynamic IP with their new Xtreme DSL Service. I have since changed my DSL provider to SpeedFactory who will give me a dynamic IP. I am now locked into a one-year contract with SpeedFactory. I understand that BellSouth now provides their customers a choice of a Static or Dynamic IP with their Xtreme DSL service.

    UPDATE

In May of 2005 I left SpeedFactory and came back to BellSouth. I have the 3.0 / 384 service and my speed test are at the top of the list of all BellSouth DSL customers with the same speed plan. My BellSouth service is fast and reliable. I have not had to call for any support with any problem since I resigned with them on 5-27-05.

    UPDATE

As of 6-20-06, I have fired BellSouth and I have signed up with Earthlink as my DSL ISP. I fired BellSouth because they do not offer Extreme 6000 / 512 service from my CO and they outright refuse to tell me if or when they will be offering the service from my CO.

Earthlink has offered DSL 6000 / 768 service through Covad for 2 or 3 months from my CO. Earthlink can therefore have my business for at least the next year since Bellsouth is not interested in keeping it.

"BellSouth won't allow servers of any type with residential

True.... but they do with Biz accounts.

It is PLAINLY spelled out in their residential TOS... if you bothered to read it....

So how are you bitching about something you agreed to???

AND SO MANY inexpesive ways to do that by hosting, if you arent attempting something illeagal.. yet another issue.

Why do you want to serve off of such a pathetic upstream ( and a large part of why it is KEPT THAT WAY.

I am confused why the heck would u want a dynamic ip? If u keep getting band from servers then you are violating rules and you dont need fast access account.
