Well, I am finding that this service blows away what I got with Earthlink/Verizon DSL and Earthlink/TW cable. The Usenet servers are fast and good, retention is modest, speeds are full, latency is low.

However, it has been six weeks and they STILL have not come out to fix the phone cable that was just layed down on the ground and in front of our front door, and the guy promised 3 days! That's piss poor!

Also, there are constant resets, as many as 10 a day, i don't know from what, but it is always very quick, just an annoyance. I sleep during the day most of the time so i don't often have a chance to call them and complain. It is frustrating that they do not have 24 hour service in a 24 hour world. Very second class if you ask me.

    Nevertheless, good service overall.

    UPDATE:

Well, it's been like a year and a half with bellsouth and now it is AT&T. I don't know about the controversy of them spying on subscribers to help the government and stuff (but I resent that they are doing that if they are) I will say that over all the DSL has been quite good.

I have experienced about 3 outages in all this time and they were brief, the longest was overnight. Phone support is courteous and the wait time is usually fair.

The one big problem with service is the modem/router that Bellsouth gave/sold me, and the one that they only officially support for home networking (maybe now it is something new?): The Westell 327W. I think the thing sucks, when doing some things online it constantly resets and I have been through several of them. They should have provided a better product for what it cost me.

But other than that, service is good over all, I only wish I could get the kind of speeds the rest of the country gets, 6 Mbit seems like so little when FIOS is what some 133t subscribers of other services are getting, big sigh... AT&T needs to get with the program and forget their latest idea and just go FIOS!

    Have you....

Gone beyond the install CD and set the modem (assuming as most recently a WESTELL) set it to "stay connected"

(Manually from the actual modem home page.)
