6/4/2008 - My connection has been just as rock solid as ever. The only bad thing I have to say about BellSouth/AT&T was that one day my $5 discount disappeared. When I called up AT&T billing, they said I wasn't entitled to that discount in the first place, and the CSR who placed this on my account was in error. Well, I distinctly remember asking the CSR whether this discount was temporary, and she assured me it would be applied for the life of the account. Oh well, guess I'll just wait for U-Verse so I can dodge this fee.

Since I have cable with Comcast, I could go back to their HSI and avoid this $5 fee, but I much prefer AT&T's lack of invasive traffic management procedures and generous bandwidth caps (none). If this ever changes, I may very well switch back to Comcast, but if things stay the way they are I'll be here for a while.

10/2/2007 - My dry line DSL is still going strong. It has been absolutely rock solid, no complaints from me. I would like some more upstream speed, and hopefully that will arrive when U-Verse rolls into town in a few months. I can't wait!

8/14/2007 - Today I switched to Bundle 97, per the information here: »SAFA (Stand Alone FastAccess) - Confirmed today. The call was painless, the CSR knew right away I was referring to the Stand Alone Fast Access bundle. She even offered to waive the $5 fee for being a SAFA customer! I had been contemplating switching to Comcast for internet service, however with the introduction of SAFA I will be staying with BellSouth/at&t.

So I can now remove "Dry DSL is not currently offered, you must have a phone line adding $20 to the bill" as a bad point.

5/26/07 - I called BellSouth's order line from my cell phone on Wednesday at 9AM (my VoIP was out - courtesy Comcast) a few days ago and a nice lady took the order for a basic local line ($17.45) and she also stated that I qualified for DSL Xtreme 6.0 ($42.95), which I didn't expect (I expected to only qualify for 3.0, if that). I jumped on the DSL and she said the local line would be up and running by 5PM, and to expect my DSL self install kit on Friday. The local line worked as expected, and the DSL self install kit arrived yesterday (Friday) as expected.

I set the modem to bridge modem (Westell 6100), and set it up with one of my WRT54Gs running DD-WRT. I immediately received blazing fast speeds (6394/427). I am very happy with the service. I will be sure to update this review with any new developments.

    Here is a speedtest:

For some reason it seems to think I'm in London. In reality, I'm only about 30 miles from Atlanta!
