    My Other Reviews·AT&T U-Verse
I have Bellsouth FastAccess and Comcast HSI running on separate computers in my home and I'm finally getting rid of the "nag" screen to review Bellsouth. I've previously reviewed Comcast in another forum.

I have been with the old Bellsouth since the dial-up days when they first offered offered internet service.(early nineties, I think). Originally had the service in Bham, Al. and moved to Nashville in 1995.

I currently have the FastAccess Extreme 6.0 package, having upgraded as they offered higher speed. The package includes a static IP address. They just finished installing a FTTN terminal that is about 2,000' (estimated as the line runs, not as the crow flies))from my condominium complex and I'm waiting to see what new services they will offer. I also have wireless and land line POTS with them.

Over the years, I've had overall great service with BS/ATT SE with a few minor bumps along the way. One of the more irritating things was when when my wife's email address was given to another customer several years ago. She received an email from BS welcoming her to FastAccess DSL. and gave an account summary with phone number for another person living in SC. We responded, pointing out that the person named in the message was not my wife(not the same last name) and that she was in Nashville, TN. After several phone calls and and email attempts we were unable to get the email address back to what it was.

They sometimes don't have the best coordination between sales and technical sides.
When I went to the Extreme 6.0 plan, the BSFA order screen showed the 6.0 option for me for the first time on March 15, 2006; I ordered it and got an email with an order number and a confirmation code the same day. I did not get the speed increase even though the "Status link" on the order page shows it completed. The email said to keep checking the speed and it should be working in 3-5 days. When I called tech support, they said it was available in my area now and would transfer me to the Sales dept who then would tell me it was not available in my area. I have a second line in my condo and when I put that number in to check availability, it would show I could get it on April 21. Based on this, I decided to just drop the DSL. I talked with another one in sales on April 4 when I called to downgrade the FastAccess to just a dial-up account....he said I would be getting the 6.0 on April 21 and if I would keep the FA, I could have the 6.0 for 31.95 for the first 6 months. I took that offer and haven't had any other big issues with them since then.

From time to time, I've called the tech support number and sometimes I get someone in the states and sometimes in SE Asia. The folks I have talked with have always been friendly and courteous, generally knowledgeable about my question, and helpful. Asian support is sometimes not as technically savvy as I expect.

    Equipment: Westell 6100

Overall, the connection is solid and stable. I personally think the price is a bit high for the speed.

Overall, I am pleased with both BS/ATT SE and Comcast. Both of them ROCK!

    02/12/09 update

All has been going very well with ATT Southeast since my last update. U-verse has become
available recently and they finished the installation yesterday. So far it has been very
enjoyable. I am on the top tier of service available here and I like the higher download speed
without being teased by Powerboost. I downloaded the 64bit beta of Win 7 the day before
the U-verse installation using Comcast HSI. I downloaded it again this morning using U-verse
and U-verse was about four minutes quicker than Comcast HSI.
