What other options did you consider for broadband Comcast, but they were unavailable in my area until recently. I could not find any local companies with a good price/speed ratio.
What SPEED/package did you order, at what monthly price? Xtreme 6.0 Package (6000/512) for $32.99/month. I consistently get 6500KBits/sec Download, and 420KBits/sec Upload.
How was the order & install process? Simple enough, I started out with Xtreme 3.0, then upgraded to 6.0.
What brand/model was the supplied equipment? Started out with a 2wire with an 802.11b, now I have a westell 327w. Would love to get my hands on the new 2wire modems ATT is giving out.
What good or bad experiences most struck you? I've only had 2. None of which was a Bellsouth issue. 1) Lawn mower cut my phone line, they fixed that within a days time. 2) Hurricane....need I say more?
Overall, service has been superb. I get decent pings to ATL for gaming. Download speeds are usually pretty good (for servers that have the bandwidth). Only thing I recommend is get a good wireless router, the westell isn't too good. Also switch the settings to a 3rd party DNS server such as OpenDNS, or Level3 (4.2.2.*).
I would only switch if Comcast started offering 16/1 (Plus PowerBoost) or better. 512K upload is just too little. Especially if you're doing VOIP.
Update: I've currently upgraded to a Netopia business class modem. This thing is a beast. My line stats have improved, and the wireless portion of the modem is great. Solid set of extensive features and configuration options available.
I've also changed to a dry-loop. Line is still fantastic. Comcast has started offering 12Mbps service in my area, but I will stick to Bellsouth because of the consistent reliable service they have always provided.
