I originally had DSL in So. Florida in 2000 when it was first rolled out down here.
As with anything new, it had many, many problems. Newsgroups flaky...e-mail not dependable, original modems questionable...but at the time, this was really the only show in town. A few years ago, Comcast came along and had some good specials at better speeds. The service was OK for the most part, but lately it began having outages and the nodes got cluttered up in the late afternoon and evening. In my area, within the last 2 months, they had 2 major all day outages, both on cable and HSI. As soon as I realized that I could get a dry loop, I considered the potential outages during a hurricane and since I don't have a land line---have third party VOIP for 3 years---I moved over to Fast Access Extreme 3.0. If all goes well, and it has thus far, I will probably up to 6.0.
Since I have my ATA-modem-router all on some hefty UPS units, I feel more secure.
