I ordered POTS and DSL service on 5/22. Phone line was installed and hooked up in 3 days (this is a new construction house, about a year old, with no previous phone service). The tech who hooked me up said that DSL was ready and they would be able to activate it anytime. He even showed me inside the pedestal to verify that DSL was available to my street.
Then the wait began. I was given the runaround on the phone several times. I was told that 9 July would be the earliest I could be hooked up. I stated that the local tech said otherwise, and my neighbor has had DSL for a year now. They said "sorry, there is nothing that can be done." I was on my way to work one morning and stopped to talk to a tech that was located at the RT/DSLAM near my house (~1 mile away) that serves my neighborhood. He said my portion of the subdivision is and has been DSL capable for over a year. Sensing a database error, I call BS/ATT again and tell them what the local tech told me. "Sorry, there is no way to 'trick' the system. You will just have to wait." So now I have to pay CableOne another month of service while I wait for DSL that is already available.
Fast forward to 9 July, the long-awaited install date. A line truck pulls up to the pedestal next door. I go strike up a conversation with the tech. He confirms that he is installing my DSL and I tell him about my frustrations. He says that I should not have had to wait more than 3 days. The MX pedestal that serves my street is fed by fiber from the RT/DSLAM and is 6.0M capable, and has been for over a year. In closing, I am very happy with the service but very frustrated with the pre-installation support. Despite an obvious database error, and 2 local techs saying otherwise, I was forced to wait 6 weeks for DSL service.
