I was previously a Comcast HSI customer in Mobile, Alabama, and very happy with the service. However, I then bought a house outside the Comcast service area, my subdivision is served with cable by Mediacom. I didn't feel comfortable with Mediacom HSI, some people I know didn't recommend them, although a few did. Since I am a DirecTV customer (which I also love) and Mediacom is more expensive than Comcast on their bare bones basic tier, I decided to go with BellSouth. At the time, there wasn't much of a difference in speed between BellSouth and Mediacom (early 2007) and I decided to have a landline since they can be good to have after hurricanes due to their typical reliability. At first, my monthly bill was about $68 per month with 3MB DSL and a basic landline. I then attempted to drop the landline for un-bundled (naked) DSL, the rep allowed me to keep the landline and DSL, but lowered my monthly rate to about $56 per month. I know that cable would be faster for the price, but the service is reliable and I think U-Verse is about to hit this area due to VRAD looking cabinets popping up all over my neighborhood and general vicinity in Mobile county.
