I used Cablevision RoadRunner for 5 years and loved the speed but hated constant disconnects, with down time varying from hours to days. The last straw was after a storm in 2003, I had cable TV but no internet for 2 weeks. That is when I switched to Bellsouth DSL Ultra. I checked availability for my home phone number from a public library that was on a T1 connection and placed order for modem and service online. Received package via USPS 5 days later and installed it myself. I have since moved to another house with a different phone number. Arranged for phone service to be transferred on day that I moved and was back online at new location and number the same day I moved. Upgraded to DSL Xtreme 3.0 with free wireless modem (I use a router for wireless home network with modem in bridged mode) about 2 yrs ago with no problems. My first modem was a Westell 2100 and current one, after upgrade, is Westell 327W. Very pleased with ease of both self-installations and transfer to different house and number. I'm happy with overall service for 5 yrs and hardware.
