I've had this service for about 5 years now and have never had a stable connection. Many techs have been out here, some give false hope others make things worse. I'm sure this service is great in other areas such as the city but for me it has been a nightmare. I've had about 4 or 5 techs out here to try to fix it but none of them fix anything. In one instance a tech made things worse. I used to have a secondary phone line in my home but canceled it and the tech connected the old line into my main line and created a big loops going all through the house causing an extremely slow and bad connection. A couple of posts on the southeast ATT forum cleared things up quiet nicely, Only had to disconnect two wires. If a good cable internet service or hopefully one day FiOS I would switch in a heartbeat.

    Response for Unreliable DSL

Sounds like you need to speak with pots repair to come on the inside to rewire your lines. If you have phone/dsl you need them, if dsl direct you need a bst tech to resolve all issues. Your connection at the nid probably is fine, get them to verify good sync there and then come on the inside to rewire which probably gonna cost some bucks. You have way too much attenuation on ur lines. This can be fixed. If you get someobody out there request a BST Supervisor(ATT Supervisor), put it in the apt notes so get someone who knows what they are doing. Good Luck

    Re: Response for Unreliable DSL

Wrong sir! (sorry) But I have tested at the NID and have the same status.. I believe I'm too far from the closet DSLAM or CO which ever I'm connected to. I've used the CO locator tool provided by dslreports and its about 2.5 miles away so I'm right on the edge.

I'm not trying to "bash" ATT/Bellsouth in anyway. When it's running pretty well it's fantastic service. But if you live more then 2 miles from the DSLAM it's not going to work out to well.

    Normal operating day.

    Surprised I'm at 3168 :o

Thanks for taking the time to read my review and offering help! ;)

    Re: Response for Unreliable DSL

Well I am sorry you feel that way. You have to understand if you want assistance you cannot come across like that or no tech/rep is gonna help you because they will assume you know what u are doing. If you have IT/dsl expetise I would suggest you try your own methods since ur reponse is cutthroat. You might have a bad modem. I live less than 2 miles sir and I have no problems. Maybe you should try a 2wire gateway. take care.

    Re: Response for Unreliable DSL

Not a modem problem unless I have 3 bad modems. 2 Westell's and a 2Wire. I'm not claiming to be an expert in the phone/networking field I'm just going on knowledge that I've picked up over the years of trying to solve all the problems but I keep coming to the conclusion that I'm just to far away from the CO. One of the techs even said he was surprised at how fast I was syncing for the distance.

    Suggestion

OK man here is a suggestion. I had customer for the love of God could not keep a good sync rate. She had undeground wiring which was causing the problems so the tech homerunned the drop wire from the pole to the house which improved the sync rate and resolved all issues. In addition get them to rewire the dslam port if possible and check the drop wires for kremps. Trust me it happens all the time where about the 10th tech finds these kind of issues. The tech that services my area is not very helpful so I hope you get someone who knows what they are doing and actually cares. If all fails you gonna have to downgrade to 1.5meg. Hopefully At&t will get there act together to deploy more DFITL/or ADSL2. They are more worried and money hungry about U-verse right now so dont get ur hopes up, lol. AT&t is still the old ma bell with the old gooses running the company, hopefully we will get some new leadership soon to take us in new directions. I feel ur pain, experience it everyday. Lastly that 1.5meg is not bad if not a heavy duty user. Its not that bad. Best of Luck.

    Re: Suggestion

1.5 meg will not cut it with my family constantly using the internet. We wouldn't be able to survive on the 1.5 plan. with the impending bandwidth cap coming we would go well over the cap for the 1.5. Another note that my DSL drops when it rains, I've read alot of other people having this problem and never really got a real answer why. I'm not exactly sure how my home is wired but it goes from the NID to the box at the end of my driveway so unless something underground destroyed the wiring it has to be something on ATT's end. My neighbor that lives right behind me has way better SN Margin and Line Attenuation stats. When I asked him a while back he said he had something like:

for downstream but I think hes on the 1.5 plan.. im not sure if that makes a difference. The SN Margin isn't that much different from mine but the Line Attenuation was much better!
I was amazed as he is a little bit further from the DSLAM.

    Re: Suggestion

Ummm sounds like ASW(Aerial Service Wire) is shorted out. Last time I had this happen with a customer and the tech had to go out to climb the pole. You got so major issues if the dsl is dropping when it rains. You gotta tell the tech this when they come out so they climb the freaking pole and fix the short. Sounds like u are barely keeping a live connections. Man I have had people say when the street light blinks the modem looses sync, rofl. Your gonna need a experienced tech out there to check the lines for shorts since ur dropping when it rains. I think we are getting warmer here.

    Re: Suggestion

Well that's the thing. There are no poles until you get out the highway that runs toward the CO and even then I'm not sure if its on the poles. Lately (the past few days) I've been losing sync in the evening time for a few min then the rate is horrible for a few hours. I'm not the only one having that problem either (»Evening connection problems) As I posted in that thread. I'm not sure if the little boxes at the end of most people driveways are connected to each other in some way but when I take a walk around the neighborhood I see a couple of boxes with the cover knocked off exposing wiring and I wondered if that might have something to do with it. I've had techs out to look for shorts but each one tells me the same thing "There's nothing I can do unless it's raining."

    Re: Suggestion

Well if its dropping when it rains yes its gonna have to be fixed. They can find it when it is not raining, trust me. The guy I had had a woman tech climb his pole for his ASW issue, lol You just gotta demand when they get there and not let them leave. They can test for that stuff. Now those boxes could be pots boxes, onis, crossbox, who knows. If some are exposed ur wiring might have been compromised there. Att has to fix it because its our problem. dont let the tech leave until the short is found, lol. Now if you can have phone service you will need to call pots repair to come fix ASW issues. If dsl direct just call in for a tech. Pots repair is ur best bet if u want this fixed since nobody else seems to know where to find the problem. You need to call in, speak with a supervisor, tell them once they schedule apt, to call dispatch and put in notes dsl drops when it rains. Its either a dsl tech or pots repair. Only pots repair if u got phone. Sounds like u got half baked line, rofl. anyhow i`m signing off, take care. I come in here and there. HOPE You get it fixed!!

    Re: Suggestion

I've demanded enough. My family has decided to switch to cable internet service, It's supposed to be faster here anyway. If that fails I'll go back to pestering ATT. Shouldn't be this much trouble to download some mp3s thanks for your concern!!!!
