The DSL service costs $42.95 The monthly cost listed includes the bare bones telephone service @ an OUTRAGEOUS $21.88 after all the telly welfare taxes and fees
The only other choice out here is Mediacom cable, and I've have bad experiences with their High Speed Internet service.
I currently have the 6Mbps/512kbps tier.
I started this service YEARS ago. When we started back on the 1.5Mbps/128kbps tier, the speeds were screwy, at first. After a trouble call, the AT&T guy found a problem with our internal wiring, and generously made the fix inside our demarc (gratis) and the speeds were nice after that.
The modem they gave us was this crappy little black Westell box ( »www.productwiki.com/westell-6100/ ). For at least a year we had problems of losing connectivity (ip address lost, without DSL light blinking) during lightning storms (novel idea in Florida, right?)
I saw a post on here a long while back about the lightning problems this lil' black Westell 6100 modem had, so I upgraded to the 3Mbps/256kbps tier, and got a free 2wire 2701HG-B gateway upgrade »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ (after $100 rebate (which I had to nag them for ) I put that motha in bridged mode and hook it to a Linksys WRT54GS »www.tigerdirect.com/applications···tId=2667 for wireless connectivity and connection control.
The connection has been rock solid since. phew. It's honestly the most reliable utility we have, even before electricity
Here is a traceroute indicating the 3rd hop latency jump which I hate:

The upload speed only becomes an issue when someone else in the house goes nuts uploading something (even as simple as a photo album ) and the connection slows to a crawl.
So, this concludes my review of AT&T DSL in Panama City (Bayou George area). I hope it helps you get an idea of what to expect.
Thank you, artie
