I've been a Comcast customer for several years, but recently have found their HSI offering getting somewhat flaky. Requests would sometimes load slowly, and often multiple refreshes were needed to have a site come up. That combined with their recent changes to Digital (and requiring a set-top box rental), and a possible hike in modem rental (Ive been paying $3 a month for 3 years
.I think they got enough from me) led me to take my business elsewhere.
I chose Dish for TV and ATT for Direct DSL, my DSL install was scheduled for about two weeks after I ordered, and I already had a DSL modem. Shortly after my order I was called by a rep and informed that there may be a delay installing DSL, and I would be called at a later date with a revised time. That call never came and the installer showed up on my scheduled day (a Friday), and after about an hour told me I was all set. I had not received my start up kit, and he told me it should get there no later than Monday. Monday came and went, so that Tuesday I called tech support, and, after some runaround to get my DSL number and the website to register my account, I was all set.
Despite being on a slower connection, pages load flawlessly now, and I don't see the speed fluctuations I saw when I was on Comcast. As soon as my contract with DISH is up, or I decide to pay the ETF, I intend to give U-Verse a try (annoyingly, ATT announced U-Verse in my area about two days after I signed with DISH)
Amusingly, last weekend I finally got the self install kit...two weeks after my install date.
