9-1-2007 Still very happy with my service. Everything is rock solid.
1-29-2004 Beach Boy got my service moved over to an rt that was just installed. Downloads are fast and connection appears to be perfect. I can't ask for anything more. The online techs made it happen. Without them I would be lost. Thanks to SBC for bringing these guys to us..
Thanks Guys!
9-16-2003 Had another tech out for noise on the voice side but they couldn't find any trouble. Starting to feel like Bill Murray in GroundHog Day..
9-08-2003 Reports indicate real line trouble at 6500 ft from my NID. Unfortunatly because of some type of overlap between the line repair people and the dsl people my line will not be repaired. The line repair people will only fix trouble that affects the dialtone side. Looks like I'll be stuck in this position for awhile. I'm still taking many errors (50000+ crc errors/day)and at half my previous speed. As far as I know the trouble ticket has been closed and the issue deemed resolved.
Very discouraging. Seems that I have slipped through a crack in the system. Adsl Guy stuck with me throughout this entire fiasco and helped me as much as possible. I know if it were possible to repair the problem it would have been done but he just couldn't force the line repair people to fix the obvious flaw. He kept in contact with me and continually updated me on the situation. Very helpful and a nice guy to boot. Now if we could only get some official bbr line repair people we would be in good shape.
9-03-2003 Had a four way call with adsl guy, beach boy and asi today. Adsl guy convinced the local co to change out my line card. According to everybody on the call the line is improved but is still taking an excess of errors. So.. Got another tech visit in the morning. Supposed to be a tech and his manager. I don't know what they're testing for, but they seemed bent on checking my inside wiring. Hopefully this will help them find the trouble and get everything repaired.
Thanks go to Ken for sticking with me to get this fixed.
9-02-2003 Got a call back from ASI today. The tech reported that no trouble was repaired but that he was seeing fewer errors than before. He wants to monitor the line and have me report any problems.
I've asked him to find out why none of the reported troubles have been repaired and to call me back with the results. I think it's a very strange practice to send out techs to detect trouble and then repair different trouble.
The techs who came out last tested my pair clean back to the co and were still seeing alarms on their tester. Someone was supposed to arrange a vendor meet at the CO to find the source of the alarms. A Class A line inspection was done but did not indicate that any repairs were performed. I'm not sure why a line inspection was requested because the techs who were out had the wiring looped at the CO and tested it clean.
The ASI tech also said he was seeing a tip to ground short, and he quickly played his inside wiring card. I'll be testing from my NID again later today.
8-28-2003 Techs were out and performed several line tests that showed no problem. However when they checked the dsl side they found some troubles. Seems that when they first conencted everything was fine but about 3-4 minutes later they were seeing alarms. All of this trouble may have been avoided if the first asi tech who came out would have kept his equipment connected for more then a minute.
My problem is not fixed yet, but I have a feeling that it won't be long. At least they have now detected a problem. Fixing it should be cake.
With all that said, I would be in real bad shape without Ken (Adsl Guy), among others who took the time to get this thing going. These guys are the inside connection to asi and they know when something is not right and will fight to get the problem corrected. I would have never been able to get this corrected without them. Never.
Thanks go out to Carl the inside tech and Earl and Tim the techs who came to my house. The online techs make a huge difference, thank you SBC for providing these great people for us to work with.
8-27-2003 I've just got word that another tech should be calling to come out and test once again. I'll drop this tech a few bucks to see if he can find the trouble. If I remember correctly my most recent distance test showed an additional 7000 cable feet. Both tests were conducted by sbc techs, the first one went undocumented so I have no proof. I'm still hopeful they can find that extra 7000ft or bad splice and remove it..
8-26-2003 Update I'm throwing in the towel on this one. I started with a great connection at 1.5/256 for 6 months, as listed in the 8-15 update I had problems where I would loose sync for several hours, multiple times each day. I got many different stories from ameritech regarding my troubles. Everything ranging from the aluminiun wiring on the poles to something inside my house. They ended up finding a short in my line outside of my house so they switched me to another pair. Unfortunatly that pair was worse then the one with the short. So now I'm at the 768 profile and their looking to once again reduce my profile to the 384/128 package. It's very frustrating to be a customer of a company that dosen't want your business. I have a few months left on my current contract and then I'll be searching for an alternative isp.
8-15-2003 Update I've been losing sync quite regularly for a few weeks now. Adsl Guy is working on the trouble but is having terrible difficulties in getting cooperation with the local repair people and others at ASI. They won't listen to him or I regarding the troubles on my line. So far they've sent an inside wiring tech who first claimed that he only fixed inside wiring issues and that I didn't have one. Then he told me my problems we caused by aluminium wiring on the poles which he couldn't fix, but that he would have my service downgraded to the level that the line would support. When I informed him that the service had een working great for several months he just ignored me. I also spoke with the ASI tech "Tommy" in St. Lous who argued with me for several minutes about my troubles. The ASI tech and the repair man showed a complete disregard for any type of customer service and I can't figure out their motive behind alienating their customers. A quick look over the ameritech/dsl forum shows many complaints of the same activities.

_______________ First Review January 2003
I'm getting the 1.5/256 package at 59.95 per month. Dynamic ip with an effecient 5360 and PPPOE.
I'm very happy with the service SBC provides due to the efforts of the techs present in the sbc forum. They have renewed my faith in SBC and I will be a devoted customer until the bitter end. Ken and the other guys in the SBC forum made all the difference in the world and without them I would be seeking other dsl providers. These guys have to be the most customer service oriented people in the whole orginazation, they've gone above and beyond to make me happy. I'll certainly be adding them to my Christmas card list.
Many thanks to SBC for making these people available to DSLR users. Many thanks to DSLR for making these people available to your users.
