I had been looking at dsl for a while, and one day a guy from sbc called me and told me about this special offer. He said that for $34.95 i could get 1.5 Mbps down and 256 k up. This came with a one year contract. I did not then have a e-net card in my comp, and no open slots, but knew of usb connectivity to some dsl modems, for a temporary solution until i got my new comp. The sales rep said they would send me a modem with usb, so i signed up. Box comes in two days, I open it to find that the modem is e-net only. I call up cust. service and they tell me that that they don't use any usb modems. So I had to take out the add-on video card to put in the included e-net card. I was rightfully pissed because they said one thing and did another. So until i got my new comp. i had to trade the e-net card and video card in and out for the slot. They also claim that as long as i re-new my contract that i can keep this price. We will see if that happens. Oh and back to the speed, I am supposed to get 1.5 mbps and 256k right? WRONG! My speed has been capped at 630 and 130. Yeah. I haven't called them about it yet but i have a feeling that they are going to deny that also. The reliability of the the connection is awsome! I have never had it go down in the near 6 months i have had it. I would highly recommend Sbc to someone, especially to someone who has cable roadrunner. Downside to sbc's dsl- Uses PPPoE so you have to log in every time, not this "always on" thing I thought I was getting. Techs can be friendly, but tend to be rude and dumb, oh and clueless(but not the guys here at dslr!). Came with d-link e-net card and efficent networks speed stream 5360 modem. Overall Great Experience!

Update: called sbc and changed plan to 1.5 mb plan for $5 less a month!

Update(11-21-03): Called last week and changed plan to deluxe and now have 256K upstream: Upgrade completed today! And when RT upgrades are complete I will have 384!

Update: have upgraded package and had 3.0/384 for a few months... get about 2.5 /410 so I can't complain... that is for 4 cents more a month (36.95-36.99)!

Update 12/7/2010:

Nothing much to report, transferred DSL service during a local move, can't get better than 3 meg service at the new address, no Uverse in sight. Prices are as high as local cable internet options, but the DSL is much slower.

Update: Service terminated. Went to Insight, now getting faster internet plus equivalent phone service for $58/mo (including taxes and fees) instead of $99.
