The guys at the Ameritech/SBC forum here are all first rate customer service people. They all know their jobs and perform their duties well.
Service is 6mbit down and 512kb upstream. I stay connected for over a month at a time, and rarely have I ever had an outage. RoadRunner is not available here, but I really dont care Time Warner service sucks anyhow. I recommend the forum to anyone that can get SBC DSL..
Now, I have upgraded to 6 megabit package with 5 static IPs.. Service is still fantastic here on message boards. I think RoadRunner is available here but I really dont care.. I have Dish Network now, so I dont ever have to deal with Time Warner ever again.
I've had the 6 mbit package now for almost 2 years, and I must say that the service has been stellar. I think I've had no more than a few minutes downtime over the past year. The only thing I can say is that the upload speed really needs to be improved. TW and other cable companies are starting to offer more upstream speeds. Thats the only thing I'd like to see added to my line.. Perhaps 1 megabit of upstream..
1-16-2007 -- Been on SBC/AT&T DSL here since 2002. I've just renewed and updated speeds as prices come down. I currently have the 6000/768 package with 5 statics. I also have a reverse DNS delegation so I can do my own reverse DNS. I currently host a couple of domains, and do my own email. The line stability is nothing short of astounding. The service from Beach Boy and the others in the Direct forum is to be commended. I have only one real complaint, and that is upstream speed. I realize that the DSL spec won't allow for much more bandwidth, but SBC/AT&T really needs to take a hard look at upstream bandwidth in the near future. The only thing that keeps me on SBC is the DNS delegation. If I could find another broadband service that offered more upstream bandwidth *and* the ability to do my own reverse DNS, I'd switch in a heartbeat.
4/20/2008 - Well, the rest of the world is getting FIOS and DOCSIS3 while AT&T isn't doing much of anything to improve on its service. While things have been reliable, the highest speed tier has not changed now in a few years. It is still 6000/768, while FIOS and Cable users now have 20/2 packages available at a very reasonable cost. U-Verse isn't the answer either. AT&T really needs to take a hard look at things. As soon as I can find someone that will provide email services for me, I'll be moving off of DSL to whatever reliable service I can find thats faster. That will also allow me to finally ditch my land line, which I haven't used in almost a year.
