I was not quoted a speed due to the fact I was unable to get DSL last time I ordered it. The sales rep. was even hesitant about ordering it this time due to that. The order price was good overall after explaining what needs to be done and why I cannot get service now vs. before.

It has been 6 months since I first tried to get DSL with SBC-Ameritech. I was unable to get it due to "equipment" on the line. It would be dealt with at a later date but probably not till next year.

I am so glad it was not next year. Using Dial-up after being on Cable Internet for 4 years was like walking up an escalator that was going down at 25 m.p.h.

I do not know if it is working other than I do have a green light. I am grateful to the local tech from Steubenville who told me what I needed to do to get the service.

The software disc that came is bad and corrupt. I am heading to read how to do what I need without all the junk that is in the CD. Plus I do not want to wait for another CD to arrive.

UPDATE: After install new phone line with CAT5, using RASPPPOE that was linked to from BBR, and the help of many of the good people of BBR I am up and running. It seems to be great even if I am not ramped up yet. I cannot wait till I am ramped up. Look out cable! I will be the post child for SBC DSL for this area! lol

The installation process took some time while SBC tech's "unloaded pairs". It was worth the wait. My end took more time than it should do to a busy schedule and conflict in the aesthetic looks.

I am using 900 MHz with 448 MB SDRAM self built computer with Speedstream 5100 modem. The modem is plugged into Netgear hub. I have not checked to see if the children’s computer can connect yet.

UPDATE: 10Oct2006 Came back to DSL after a 8 month revisit with cable. I am VERY happy to be back with DSL.

Computer is self built with 2.4 Pentium with 2G memory WinXP using 2wire gateway modem.

The DSL has been running since 1545 today (10 Oct 2006). This is my speed test tonight: 2006-10-10 22:54:10 Java speed test 1286/324 kbps.

    2008Jan 14 Update:
I left DSL. I could not get the same value I had (read pricing) and I could not upgrade my service. I figured with the phone bill and DSL I might as well go get the bigger cable package. I hope some day in the future that DSL is available at my distance (since at my distance AT&T will not give you service now) and that phone line for DSL only is MUCH cheaper.
