    Update: 8/22/06

I haven't put an update here in a while and the site just asked me, so here we go.

The only problem that I've had so far was about 1 week ago, there was a problem with my modem connecting with SBC/AT&T. The DSL signal was fine, it just wouldn't log in. I had to make a phone call, and in about 2 hours was back up and running. I honestly don't know where the problem was.

Before this, I had issues with the modem "Locking up" per say. I currently have the 5100B router. I do use a Netgear Router, so just to make sure that it wasn't an issue with the router, I left my one computer connected directly to the modem for about 1 week. It would quit responding once every other day. A reboot fixed this. I downloaded the new firmware from Siemens website, version 1.0.0.53 and it fixed this problem. Just to make sure there wasn't a problem with my Netgear WGT634U to the newest firmware, and it's been smooth sailing.

Again, I always suggest DSL before HSI from any cable company because of price and realibality.

    Update 04/17/05

Well good news - my new package Pro (3.0/512) is up and running for a few weeks now. I have had no issues with my line at all to date. I only had one issue with my speed profile being pooched, but a trip to the SBC direct forum took care of that in less then a few hours. I am running at full speed.

    My setup is currently:

2 X-boxes (one hardwired, one wireless)
    1 Server running SBS2003 (e-mail, internet firewall,domain server)
    1 wireless dell laptop
    1 HP laptop hard wired
    1 Sony Viao

I have never had a slowdown, or problems with my 5100B so far.

Thanks SBC for the great $29.99 deal, and the great support here at BBR.

    Update: 12/01/2004

I moved to a new apartment on 11/13/2004. Ordered DSL on 11/17/2004. Recieved Modem and Self install kit on 11/23/2004. At about 1pm on 11/24 - Full sync and I was ready to rock and roll. I followed the FAQ in the Ameritech forum so I didn't have to use the CD to setup my new account. the 5100B was a snap. Other then a few hrs of slow upload, I've been at full speed. I have the modem in bridgemode, and I have a Netgear router handeling the PPPoE. I have the basic package (1500/300 something) and I getting the max with the PPPoE overhead. I recieved an X-Box for my birthday, and just signed up for the X-Box Live. I have had no issue with lag or any other speed problems. Sorry for the late update, I knew I was moving, and thats why I didn't update my old review.

I also wanted to give a Thumbs-up to BeachBoy and all the people involved with the Direct forum. They are the DSL gods.BeachBoy Prequaled me here and when I got the response from him, I was on the phone 5 minutes later for the order. This is why I gave "5" for my review for Tech Support.

Just on a side note, where I moved in, they kept on pushing Comcrap down my throat. When I asked the leasing agent if they had DSL, she said "What's DSL" I honestly think they are taking kickbacks from Comcrap.

    Sometime in 2002:

I ordered the ADSL package with Dynamic IP with PPPoE Speedstream modem. (700/300 - they have changed the packages since I had placed the original order over a year and a half ago) at 29.99 a month. That included the self install package with the phone filters and the modem. Pluged the modem in. Installed the software and BOOM - it was up and running. No issues at all.

What was even better - THEY called me and said, "You are almost at your year mark Would YOU like to continue with us, if you do you can keep the same package at the same price if you sign up for 1 more year" - I can honestly say that even for my clients Not one ISP has ever called and asked do you like our service or even to let us know about a new deal.

The reason I moved to ameritech.net (now SBC/Yahoo) is the cable company was ripping me off. They were sold and traded so many time I couldn't keep up with my e-mail addresses. Then one day I recieve a letter from AT&T telling me the price of everything is going up - and If i wanted to have more then one computer (I had 5 at the time behind a wireless router) that I would have to pay (I think) 4.99 each - Now that was before they were called comcast. So I said - screw the cable company I going to go DSL.

Because of the ease of use and easy install - I now suggest to all my clients to use SBC for their DSL either at home or for their business. With the free equiptment, and depending what package you get it may be a free install - you just can't beat that for right now.

Just some FYI - I got bumped to the new package 1.5/300 and I'm getting 1200 down with no problems. I'm going to see if i qualify for the new 6000-1.5? Even if i don't qualify, I am more then happy to stay with this company for the long haul.

I also want to say Thanks to the SBC guys in the forums here. As I can see they help out ALOT! Even tho I have not had to IM or ask questions, It makes me feel better that they are always willing to help - So I know if I ever have a problem, It will be worked out.
