4/12/07 Since my last review, my SBC/ATT DSL has been up and running rock solid. The billing monster has been tamed (so far), and my service has been nothing short of spectacular. Speeds are within the norms of advertised, 6016/768, and the tech issues I've had have been very few and far between. I know my contract is about up and the rate will change, but will comment on that when it happens. Kudos to those folks that do try and make the system work. I appreciate it.

6/19/2006 Have been pleased with my Extreme upgrade, but unfortunately, a large problem has developed. It has nothing to do with the DSL, but with the billing monster at Ameritech/SBC/ATT, which may cause me to lose my phone and DSL. Due to the offer of combined billing, I was getting really screwy bills every month. The last bill I opened in May took me by total surprise. Needless to say, after many hours on the phone with the billing monster, I got no satisfaction other than "Sorry about your luck, but that's the way it is." So my advice for those looking into a combined bill with phone, DSL, Cingular, Dish-TV and their forth-coming Light-Speed, don't. Have Cingular billed separately, have Dish billed separately and lastly have your phone/DSL billed separately. It may seem like a lot of bills rolling in, but in the end, you'll be glad you did. And you won't go through the pain that I and several others are experiencing.
However, if and when this issue is resolved, I will probably come back to DSL, as for the value for the money is the best there is. And the folks in the Fun House as well as ATT Direct have been most helpful.
Lastly, I am dinging them in the services department, as billing is a service.

4/15/2006 Have had this fine service for 2+ years now, and with the exceptions of a minor glitch (mine), the service performs as expected. The only competitor in this area is TWC, which I won't be going back to any time soon, regardless of what price they offer. I got a good bundle package from SBC, and I'm going to stick with them.
******************************************************************************* EDIT - 6/21/2005 Due to some budget constraints, I had to reduce my package/price to fit my limited income. The sales/service co-ordination was very good. Was asked repeatedly if I wanted to cancel out my higher (grand-fathered) speeds, and when I explained the situation to them, they were very apologetic but co-operative. Speed reduction occured over-night (6/20-21/2005), and as of now the service is running smoothly. Was also to get a new modem, which I am still awaiting, since I am more than 4 months out of "contract" from my former speed settings. Over-all, I would recommend SBC to anyone who can get it. Outside of the telephone personnel with whom I've talked to, the rest of the support I get comes from either the SBC-Ameritech forum (FunHouse) or theough the SBC Direct forum.
************************************************************************************* Ordered this service on 2/9/2004, and after going through the 20 question routine, was given a online date of 2/20/2004. Considering I ordered after 6:00pm, I am only counting the whole days to success. Got the self-install package. Upon setting up and getting registered, went to my Linksys, and setup the PPPoE, and I was off to the races. Consistently getting 4500 to 5500 down, and 512 to 580 up. Overall, I am pleased with what I have so far.
One note though, I did not install the software provided by SBC. Being an "old" hand at this, it really did not make sense to use it.
I have been told I am less than 5000 ft. from a RT, but well over 15,000 ft from the CO. I do believe that SBC has put forth a great effort to appease the masses. If you get the chance to try it, go for it.
