Ordered 1.5/160 self-install Wireless Networking package at $26.95 rate in December 2003. Order to online in 7 days. Ordered on Tuesday, Tech was out on Thursday, said DSL very good, noticed noisy phone line. Called Ameritech to check phone line noise. Fixed by Friday morning. Self -installed on the following Wednesday, with 2Wire Homeportal 1000SW, USB to basement computer in the morning (1 hour), and the self-install CD. (I know...!) Completed hooking other 2 computers upstairs with Wireless in the evening, half-hour on each. Removed all the applications the CD installed other than the 2Wire monitor software, after reading about all the problems they cause in the forums.

Also, when son was back for Christmas and Spring breaks from college, hooked his computer via Ethernet port to the 2wire, no problems getting him on the network and DSL.

So, all three computers are networked, sharing printers, and DSL line. Service has been rock steady, other than 1 brief outage in December.

Wife received new laptop from her old company last month. Bought the D-link wireless PCMCIA card for it, and only took less than half-hour to have the laptop on our network and into the Internet!

Just recently noticed some sync losses, but just reran the modem diagnostics and everything's back to normal, after a brief power outage due to the storms that ran by the last two days. (May 21, 2004)

If this keeps up, We will definitely reup when our contract expires.!

    Go SBC!

    Update 06/03/2005:

Reupped online prior to contract expiration date. Due to billing miscues, wound up being charged full price for Express Package. Took billing 3-4 months to correct this, even though I called each month afterwards. The reps were very nice, gave the $23.00 credit for the months I was being wrongly charged, and finally straightened the mess out in March, 2005. So my contract has been extended out to March of next year.

Speeds and reliablity are still rock-solid. No complaints there. The 2Wire modem has more than met my expectations (1000SW).

I will definitely be looking at re-rating at the new price of $14.95 in a couple of weeks.

    Update 02/13/2006:

1-year contract was to expire on March 9, had not received renewal notice yet like I did last year. Called SBC-DSL on February 1, talked with CSR Holly. She gave me two options, renew at existing rate for 1 year, or go to the lower rate for Express for six-months. I asked her would I then have the option to renew at the end of the six months, she said yes, with no problems. Explained to her the problems I had with billing last year, she said shouldn't be a problem this time as she was entering the info right then. Checked the DSL account yesterday, and sure enough, the new rate was in place. Thank you Holly for doing things right and the pleasant conversation!

    Update 06/27/2006

Saw I was qualified for the Pro upgrade for 17.99. Ordered online on a Monday, sync rate was upped to the new speeds by Friday (3008/512).However, thanks to the good people on this forum, I knew about the problems in gettng the Redback profile changed. As suspected, even though the sync rate was changed, the download speed stayed at the old rate. Contacted the techs in SBC Direct, they corrected the profile on Monday for the Pro speed...still needed the tweak test and DrTCP to change the RWIN to get the higher speed. Again, this was due to the people here in the forums.

So far, the new speed is fantastic! Next, let's see how the billing goes...

    Update 07/12/2006:

Checked this month's billing online. Everything's correct! I'm being billed 17.99 for the Pro Package...no hassles/mixups, and in the first billing cycle for the upgrade also! Way to go AT&T!

    Update 10/22/2007:

Automatically switched to the new monthly pricing for Pro , no more yearly contracts. Speed has been consistent throughout and I am still pleased with the service. Will stay with now AT&T, no problems, and always up when I need them!
